Lost post box key

The other day I dropped my post box key in the little hole where my radiator is boxed in, meaning I can't access it . In fact I dropped both as I'd never separated them. I went and bought another post box the same, assuming they had the same key, but nope!

I've tried prying it open, so I can access the screws and replace the hole box. Nope.

Any ideas? I can't take the box off the wall without opening it.

Last idea is to pry it and whack it with a hammer to get it open I guess .

Can you unbox your radiator?

I have a post box and you can reach in through the letter slot and turn the latch that opens the box. Difficult with your hand but maybe a coat hanger contraption might work!

Or a magnet ona string dangled down the hole?

HappyMaltesers · 25/06/2022 16:49

I'd go with whacking it with a hammer since you already bought a new box.
Just break the old one open to get it off the wall and replace, probably the easiest option I think.

Some sort of crowbar type implement, doesnt matter if you break it seen as you already have a new one.

Is there a code on the lock of the postbox, you may be able to get a replacement key on eBay or from the manufacturer. Otherwise you'll have to destroy either the postbox or the radiator cover 🔨

Ok, I'm going to try and unlock from the inside but I think it's exceptionally well built.

Otherwise I'll borrow a crowbar...

My radiator boxing is quite new and perfect albeit not yet painted . The other thing is to get a handyman to do either. Thing is I didn't see it actually fall in the hole but I dropped it and it has vanished and the hole is directly under the hook with the keys on (something I didn't think through...)

A good locksmith shop can probably do you a copy key for the original box, you'll need a note of the manufacturer and any code on the lock. Will probably cost a fiver.
