To cut a long story short, a colleague is having a nightmare with an elderly parent and I'm trying to offer support but it's out of my field of experience or knowledge.

He lives on his own, unsteady on his feet and dementia, recently had an accident at home and after a few days in hospital is physically fit to discharge but from what she is telling me, I'm worried. She tells me his dementia has taken a real for the worse - he is violent toward hospital staff and family, doesn't know where he is or why he is there, doesn't recognise family members. How can he be fit to discharge home to live on his own??

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received, I really want to support my colleague while she deals with this.

Urgent call to Social Services for an assessment. And she needs to say that she cannot do any care at all, or they will put it all on her.

Can you take over any of her tasks temporarily?
