Skateboard recommendations?

For DS who has asked for one for his 6th birthday?

What should I look for, for a complete novice? I’ve had a look on eBay etc, but am bewildered by the different lengths, materials, widths and shapes.

Any recommendations gratefully received!

Can't give you much advice but I do remember reading that you shouldn't buy a cheap one because it's dangerous. The wheels won't roll as well and it leads to more falls and not as good form.

When I was looking, I contacted the people at skatehut via their website and they were amazingly helpful!

DP has skateboarded on and off since he was a child. He's part of a group of middle aged skateboarders (yes, this is a thing)

Second the Skatehut recommendation and it says give them a call for advice. They have some kids complete boards that look pretty good and priced from £20 including some Tony Hawk branded ones, so you probably can't go wrong with one of those.

Don't forget knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet.

Our boy hated skateboards -harder wheels, hard to trim, but likes the more squashy-wheeled longboard (from Smyths) as it’s more relaxed, easier to ride and easier to turn.

I'd get him a penny board at this age and don't forget the helmet, wrist pads, elbow pads and knee pads.

Thanks all. I’ll check out Skate Hut.

He already has protective gear that we got him with his bike/scooter, but that’s a good call too.
