Did he ruin it for himself

Today was my husbands first father's day after our long awaited baby I was excited to celebrate myself as I have always felt guilty for not being able to give him children

I was a bit stuck for gift ideas as it was his birthday last week ( I took him away for the weekend and spent two hundred pound on gifts ) so for father's day I got him a foot ball top 75 quid and a matching one for our little girl

The kit I got him was the new Liverpool top and admittedly he'd not s die hard fan but would watch their big games and is going to see a game next season and his password begins with Liverpool FC . He would never spend that amount of money on the top himself but just thought would be a cute gift and he is not an Amsterdam fan but wears the top as it was a bargain .

I gave him the gift and dressed the baby in the jersey . When he seen his face dropped and he said thank you but looked disappointed . When I asked why he said he didn't support them and wouldn't wear the top or want the baby in the top I replied that he didn't support Amsterdam and he wore the top and he could wear it to the match .

The incident has just ruined the day for me I'm quite hurt after that effort I put in and got a bit tearful my mum he tried to move on but the moment was gone .
Aibu?

No your not being unreasonable at all to be honest sounds a bit ungrateful you’ve put in the effort for him and spent a lot of money 😞

Return the tops, use the money treating yourself to a facial, manicure or anything for yourself.

Amsterdam or Liverpool? I'm confused 😕

Find it bizarre that he would have a Liverpool based password but claim not to support them. Going to a game, maybe - might just enjoy top flight football from any team - but not the password as well.

He should have handled it differently, and appreciated the effort, but I think a football top for a team he didn't support is a bit mis-pitched as a gift. It is an expensive gift, and in that situation I woukd definitely want to know if it wasn't something my dp would use so I could send it back and use the money for something else.

Aw thats crap and must have cost you well over £120 altogether I guess. I would just return them get your money back and not buy anything for him .

You’re trying too hard. You’re spending too much and expecting too much reaction from him, and being too emotional when you don’t get the reaction you want.

It’s too much pressure for both of you. Dial it right down and next time (birthday and Father’s Day and all other occasions) get something less expensive and less emotionally charged.
