What food can’t you eat without always making a mess.

I had a cream slice for the first time in years yesterday and forgot how awkward they are to eat! I usually slice them in half lengthways but then the cream or icing side stick to the plate (I always save the iced side for last as it’s my favourite).

It’s impossible to eat them without making a mess.

I watched someone (Katherine Heigl?) tear the bottom off a cupcake and place it on top to make a sandwich so she could eat it without the icing getting everywhere. Genius!

Anne Hathaway! Love that cupcake hack! 😁

As for the question, I can’t eat most things without making a total mess, but the worst is without fail a Subway sub. I don’t get them often, but I have to eat them alone, I had one with a friend a few weeks ago and it was just embarrassing, I’m also a slow eater and she’s fast, so I was still eating it for 10 minutes after she’d finished, and it was grim. Pickles flying everywhere, Mayo dripping from my chin, squashed tomato slices oozing out the bread and on to my top. I went through about 15 napkins. She (rightfully) looked disgusted by me 🫢

A flake.

Cut them in half

If the burger is in a bun, try turning it upside down before eating it. The bottom bun on the burger isn't as stable as the top so the top takes the weight of it, the top burger bun is on the top mainly for aesthetic purposes rather than practical. So hold the burger in your hands and flip it over.

Fajitas, tacos and just about any other Mexican food. It's a running joke in my house and the DC monitor how messy I am!
For every other food I'm perfectly capable of eating nicely so I'm not sure what about Mexican food is so hard

DH makes a mess with pretty much anything, and cannot be relied on to keep his clothes food-free.

For me - a Flake. I cannot eat them without using a big plate to catch all the bits of chocolate that disintegrate as soon as I so much as look at the thing.

Spare ribs

Burgers! Is there a secret to eating them without them falling apart?!

Eating them upside down is meant to help stop them falling apart. Not sure how true it is though cos I tend to just take a McDonald's burger apart anyway and eat the dry part of bun first dipped in bbq sauce, then the top part of the bun and finally the burger.

Pasties. I need a hazard suit to eat a large one with flaky pastry.

greenacrylicpaint · 17/06/2022 14:44

tacos
filled pancaces

oldwhyno · 17/06/2022 14:52

ribs. especially those boiled in the bag, flash in the oven, coat thickly in sugary sauce, type they have in the supermarkets.

Ratonastick · 17/06/2022 15:01

Anything in Wagamama. Literally any dish on the menu, including the nibbly gyozas. DS refers to the blast radius I generate when I eat anything there and I have to grudgingly accept that he has a point.

Floella22 · 17/06/2022 15:07

Cornettos.
It’s not the ice cream. It’s the wafer and the chocolate at the bottom I get covered in.

Croissants too and I live in France. Fortunately ddog licks the floor afterwards.

greenacrylicpaint · 17/06/2022 16:43

wraps
crepes

mcplant · 17/06/2022 16:57

Chicken wings
I know you get a finger bowl in restaurants but I need a hot cloth like you used to get on aeroplanes for my face

elp30 · 17/06/2022 17:07

Tacos
Watermelon with the rind 🍉
Flaky pastries
Ramen noodles

OMG that is genius!

I hate over stuffed sandwiches, pittas, kebabs that sort of thing. Usually from food trucks or take away places. It annoys me when the filling falls out. I always feel like saying give me less filling! Not keen on eating anything with my hands TBH.

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/06/2022 17:10

Sorry I was referring to the cupcake hack.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/06/2022 17:31

I wear an apron to eat my breakfast otherwise I will definitely drip dippy egg or marmalade or yoghurt or whatever all over a clean outfit.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 17/06/2022 19:40

It used to be croissants but now I tear it with my hands like my mad old french aunt used to and it's much easier to contain the crumbs.

Noodles however always end up on my chin

TheSummerPalace · 18/06/2022 12:34

Lobster
Crab in ginger and spring onion sauce - what a mess that makes!

Chemenger · 18/06/2022 12:43

If I’m wearing a white tee shirt it doesn’t matter what I’m eating, something will drip on it. It’s a family joke that if I appear at breakfast in a white tee shirt I’ll be wearing something else by dinner time. Even if I only have a cup of coffee , I’ll develop some kind of drinking problem and spill it down a white tee shirt. Otherwise I don’t think I’m unusually messy.
