Luggage allowance

Going on holiday abroad with my 4 year old and DH for the first time.
We have 15kg allowance each, can we do 45k over 2 cases? Instead of 3x 15kg?

Yes it’s fine to do that. I think there is a limit on each individual piece (maybe 32kg? Might vary between airlines) but I imagine that’s to ensure baggage handlers can actually lift the bags!
But yes, 2 bags of 45kg would be fine assuming it’s split fairly evenly.

You need to check with the airline. I think it has changed, but at one point, you couldn't do that with Ryanair, each item had to be below the limit and if you turned up with a 20 kg bag and a 10 kg bag, you'd have to pay £££s for the extra 5 kg.

It will be explained clearly in your booking T&Cs so don't rely on correct advice from MN when you haven't said which airline you're travelling in, because they all have different rules.

It depends on the airline. Sometimes they do not allow you to combine the weight allowance.

On a few occasions I have had to transfer some items between suitcases at checkin.

Also double check the allowance for your 4 year old, sometimes kids tickets have a reduced amount.
