Huge E-on bill

I've got a flat which I'm renting, it's a one bed flat newly built (well, it's 8 years old now) All appliances are energy efficient. When I lived the I used to pay £19 a month and at some point they reduced it to £12 as I had a large credit on the account.

My current tenants (a couple) have been paying £32 a month for a few years. They are hardly there, both work full time, they put the heating on for barely 3 months as it's a warm flat and all double/triple glazed.

I got a smart meter installed 18 months ago and so it started with 0. The current direct debit hasn't been changed and the amount has been right. I added a new reading yesterday which was over 23000 kw and so we now have a massive debit of almost £5,000. 😳 I called E-on today and they said they'd check the meter for accuracy but I'm worried. Has anyone experienced this?

So a quick update that the readings we sent through to E-On were from the wrong meter 🙄. It was the heat meter.

The electricity meter is in fact 3158 rather than 23500, which makes sense considering it started from 0 about 19 months ago. I expect a credit on my account now.

Awww great glad you got it sorted

£32 a month doesn't even cover the standing charge
I have a sub 500 sq foot flat-never needs heating on- occupied about 10-15 days a month and it is now £80 a month- was £60 in Feb.

@DirtyteaCup I'll get some sort of provisional answer tomorrow. Based on the usage and the billing history I don't expect any change in my £32 /month standing order.

Just a word of warning op your standing charge will probably without a doubt go up.

These have risen across the board.

I've just had my renewal / choice to fix and the standing charge has gone right up.

Whodidthewashing · 21/06/2022 22:33

@limitededitionbarbie You are probably right. I mean we have expected some sort of increase but I hope not too much. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Pics are off my current, then fixed then the last one is variable.

limitededitionbarbie · 21/06/2022 22:38

I just have no idea what to do for the best right now

@limitededitionbarbie Thank you for sharing that.

Update: my account shows a debit of £187 so I expect an increase in the standing order, but at least its not £5000 😬. Glad it's even resolved.
