Prenatal HV visit

I've got one scheduled for this week but no one has explained what it's for. This is my second DC and never had one where I lived before.

Does anyone know what this is for and what to expect?

Lots of nosey questions! About family history & support, health, finances, feeding intention, getting prepared for baby, expectations/hopes for delivery etc

Its nothing to stress over, they just carry out a routine family health needs assessment to see if you need any extra support with anything.

For most people it’s a tick box exercise; it meets a KPI & keeps managers happy. The HV service in my area have to offer 5 KPI contacts (antenatal, new birth, 6/8 week, 9/12 month review & 2-2.5 year review) because that’s what they are commissioned (paid) for. Often families don’t get offered all 5 contacts because of staff shortages.

And don’t worry about being extra tidy…unless you have dog shit ground into the carpet or your house is a hoarders heaven they don’t care.

They basically just introduce themselves and give you your red book so you have it for the birth.

Thank you.

I've got loads of old baby clothes in a pile on the bedroom floor to sort out and I was a bit worried about the judgement!

Ah, in our area the midwives give out the red books!

Youll get no judgement (unless they’re a dick, in which case ignore!)
I’d view that as good prepping*
