How long do videos posted to Snapchat remain accessible?

Is it possible to retrieve such a video?

Does it make any difference whether the video was recorded through the app or on a device and then uploaded to Snapchat?

We do not have access to the device that was used.

As far as I’m aware, if no one has saved the video it can’t be retrieved.

Namechangehereandnow · 14/06/2022 15:58

If the video has been saved, then a notification will be sent to say x saved a video. If it saved in ‘chat’ then it’s there for all to see (the sender and recipients)

GazeboLantern · 14/06/2022 16:13

How would you go about finding it?

You don’t find it, it’s just there in plain sight. Who sent and received the video? ie are you the sender or receiver? Was it sent in ‘chat’ or standard snap?

I believe this is the case, oce it's gone it's gone

WhyNott · 14/06/2022 21:52

Was it on a story or directly sent to someone? Of on a story it can be rewatched for 24 hours. Someone could then screen record if they wanted! Can you give us some more info?

Unless the recipient saved it … or even the sender afterwards

GazeboLantern · 14/06/2022 22:35

I don't know the answers to any of your questions. All I know is that the video was seen on Snapchat.

I’m guessing you’re asking as if you were the who was sent a Snapchat video?
No, there’s no way to retrieve after viewing if sent as a Snap.
If it was a story, it will be visible for 24 hours or until deleted by the uploader.

If you’re the sender it’s gone unless saved to camera roll before sending.

GazeboLantern · 15/06/2022 07:43

So unless someone screen recorded the video when they viewed it on Snapchat, or the originator of the video recorded it directly on their device and then uploaded it, the video is completely and irretrievably lost?

Sorry I'm being obscure here. It involves a vulnerable person dear to me. Not the originator of the video, but victimised by it.

Pretty much, or they may have recorded it on Snapchat and saved it on there before sending it.

Namechangehereandnow · 15/06/2022 07:55

Yes that’s correct - it will only be there if the originator saved it to their own phone photos/videos (my dc often do of our own cute cat etc), if the sender or recipient saved it to Snapchat ‘chat’ section (you’d only know this if you had the senders/recipients phones), once saved in ‘chat’ you can save to your own camera roll, not sure if screen record is just a different way of saving to camera roll.

If you’re concerned I’d contact the police anyway.

Not true.

OP the police can retrieve it but you need the original device.

Snapchat doesn't actually delete, it, sort of, tells the device to ignore the file.

Call the police.
