So car has been written off - old Astra 2010 plate, very low mileage. Insurance as always wants to give a pittance but have said to send over links of like for like cars and will negoiate. However as we know there are hardly any used cars for sale.

I can find exact same car even the same colour but 2009 one year older and not even as immaculate as our car - going/selling for much more than insurance are offering.

Any advice???

I'd send them the link to the one that you say is 1 year older than yours. That shows that yours would actually be worth more than that one, not less.

Yankydoodledandy · 14/06/2022 11:25

Ive done that! Sent them links to cars that are 1 year older and inferior to ours and also same year 2010 BUT lower engine e.g. 1.4l they have said they need to see exact same!!!!

I even rang up a couple of Vauxhall main dealers and they both said the same there are hardly any used cars out there - people arent buying new cars or part exchanging.

Are you dealing with a broker or a claims agent? Either way it sounds like you're being given the runaround. It's their job to make you an offer.

Send them details of three close matches (but pick above average price listings!), if they refuse to accept those then ask to escalate the claim to their manager,. If they refuse that, or you don't get anywhere with a manager, ask for details as to how you can raise a complaint with the insurance ombudsman.

£4k, 2009, very low milage - www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206066508228
£2,350, 2010, average mileage - www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205175816016
£3,250, 2010, estate, average milage - www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206126713790

Looking at what's available on Autotrader the market average buying from a dealer is about £2.5k-£3.5k depending on mileage. Average mileage is c.80k miles, very low mileage is <40k miles.
