To wonder if exercise can grow your height

hello all, if you’re used to my old account you know I ask some random questions so brace yourself.

I’m 5”5, I grew about 2 inches over the last 3 years due to weight gain and exercise (I was a stickbug so). The career path I want to go into is reliant-ish on height, I’m no means small but a few more inches would definitely help.

has anyone here grew through exercise and good diet?
kind regards

Pre pandemic, I had a face to face asthma review each year, which included a height check. One year, the nurse said I was a couple of centimetres taller than before. It was the yoga and Pilates that improved my posture.

I grew an inch from regular yoga. I like to say it was a late 30s growth spurt but I was obviously just standing straighter!

@HunterHearstHelmsley Grin I best whip out the yoga mat then

I don't think you can grow a few inches!? Surely?

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 13/06/2022 21:05

@TheVolturi i was thin most of my early teens and my periods, breast growth came quite late hence my question

How old are you? You can’t grow as an adult. You can improve your posture and stand up straighter but that will only take you so far.

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 13/06/2022 21:07

How old are you?

KindergartenKop · 13/06/2022 21:09

Oh yes at 17 you can! You grow until about 20, although stop usually 3 years ish after periods start.

I "gained" an inch thanks to Pilates, but of course I didn't really - it was just improved posture.

Fjea · 13/06/2022 21:10

Ah! Maybe then 😄

Good nutrition will help but again, only so far. 2 inches between 14 and 17 is not unusual I would have thought, you may be finished growing now but you may have more to do!

Bergamotte · 13/06/2022 21:13

If you are 17 and had a late puberty, you MIGHT still be growing.

Getting adequate sleep is necessary to produce growth hormone.

Obviously you need to eat enough (both of overall calories and of nutrients) but eating more than needed wouldn't make you grow taller.

Thanks for all your advice :)

Walking in platforms. It may not seem like excercise, but trust me, you'd better practice before using those in the wild. When you have mastered them successfully you will be indeed a couple of inches taller.

:D

Pilates or ballet/barre work might well improve your posture which could add a little height. But can you grow a few inches after puberty/once your bones have fused, no.
