How to escape admin roles

Anyone have any success returning to higher level work after taking less demanding jobs while your children were young? How did you do it? I feel I'm being pigeon holder in admin roles although I'm a graduate and I did research, performance and project roles pre children. I've just done the PRINCE 2 Foundation course and I'm doing the practitioner too. I'd like to escape the public sector too. Anyone manage to be taken seriously with a sector change after raising a family? Thank you.

Congratulations on the PRINCE role. Were you sponsored by your organisation or did you pay yourself ?

Either way, what opportunities might you find in order to get some experience in your existing organisation? Can you volunteer to shadow someone, or perhaps take some of the more admin type roles off them (budgeting and finance usually have lots of admin ... and is the first thing I think of). Always be willing and helpful, no matter how busy you are.

You may then be able to expand your role so that you really are operating as a project manager. Only rarely will your existing organisation recognise your expanded role, so your next best option is to have enough experience to bag a new role elsewhere. It's reasonable to say that your skills and experience are not being recognised so you feel you have to move

Good luck.

I paid for it myself. I had to leave my previous work due to hearing problems. I've got myself hearing aids too so if they'd just been patient it would have been sorted quickly.
I am concerned about whether without recent project experience the PRINCE 2 won't count for much. I hope it proves I didn't lose my brain when I took a career break with children!
