A Ryan Air Baggage One

ohnoryanair · 12/06/2022 19:35

Bought new suitcase today for my DD who has a few school trips coming up. Of course didn't realise Ryan Air have 20cm depth limit and suitcase is 21cm for cabin bag. How likely to be a problem? I would risk it myself and pay but she will be with a school group so should I replace it or just giver her extra cash in case?? Rest of dimensions fine, smaller in fact than recommended.

It will be fine, they've never measured mine in 10 years of regular flying

LeavesOnTrees · 12/06/2022 19:52

You have to be able to squash it into their box things.
Is it a soft suitcase or a hard one ? She'll most prob be fine

ohnoryanair · 12/06/2022 20:24

It's a hard one ☹️

Feel so stupid, we always check in so I didn't check and when we got home she said Ryanair. I might just give her extra money just in case.

I've always had mine checked with Ryanair usually flying between London and Dublin. Def give her the money just in case.

That said if it's a school group they may overlook it.

We fly Ryan air a lot (at least every month) and I’ve never had mine checked but I’ve seen other people have theirs done- I think it depends on how big it “looks”. I’ve usually flown with a soft bag though which might look smaller although actually measures slightly more. I have always been able to squash it under the seats or in to the luggage spaces.

Whooshaagh · 12/06/2022 20:34

It's rare they check but if you're worried I would change it.

PatsyJStone · 12/06/2022 20:37

For 1cm I wouldn't worry.

I must look a bit dodgy. My hand luggage case has always, on every single flight, been tested. Both in Manchester outgoing and Lanzarote coming back each time. They got my friend with it once though, hers was a hard shell and couldn't get it in and we had to bloody pay to put it in the hold!
