Please can someone help me work this out. It’s a really basic question and I can’t figure it out. Many thanks in advance.

73-24=49

OperationRinka · 11/06/2022 17:38

91-67=24

But if you or your DC are practising for an exam this is pretty basic numeracy, so you need to go back to first principles and do lots of practice.

Someone helpful may come along and talk you through the process involved in working this style of question out.

Haha just beat me OperationR.. I got 73-34.. you are thinking about borrowing a ten

Can you identify what bit you're getting stuck with?

The first is 73-24

The second is 91-67

First one - look at the units column. What number do you take 4 away from to get 9? 13, so that means the top number has to end in a 3, with the 1 from 13 being 'borrowed' from the 7, so the 7 in the tens column becomes 6. 6 minus what is 4? That answer is 3, so the sun becomes 73 - 24

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 11/06/2022 17:43

You need to start with the units. Something minus 4 = 9 so the top blank needs to be 13. To get 13 you'd have to have carried a ten from the tens column. So that would change the 7 to a 6. 6 minus something is 4 so that blank needs to be 2.
