I was out for a run this morning. A beautiful day here, so I decided to stroll the last half mile home in the sunshine.
After walking for a few minutes a postman said hello. Not just a cursory "morning" but an I'm really pleased to see you hello, which momentarily made me think he must be someone I knew.
Then he fell in beside me, chatting about what a lovely day it is.
The whole thing lasted a minute or two and then we went in separate directions.
It unsettled me though. This "strange" man intruding into my day/time/space. I was sweaty and wearing skimpy running kit, so maybe that contributed to my unease.
Anyway, was it an odd thing for him to do or is my reaction odd? It made me a bit sad that I found it odd TBH, I guess perfectly normal in the days of a friendly local postie and probably still in some communities, but here in a large town in the SE, definitely unusual.
