I collect ceramics from a well know company and joined a Facebook page to connect with others who do the same. I posted a wanted item online and was contacted by a member who said she could sell me the specific item. She appears to be an active member of the group and quickly sent me photos of the piece she was willing to sell. We agreed a price of £46 to included P&P. Not a huge amount - but annoying.

I should have trusted my spidey instincts when she apologised for the initial delay in sending it, as she hadn’t got appropriate packing materials. She then sent me a photo of it packed up and ready to go. This was two weeks ago. I chased her up earlier in the week via messenger and she said she had sent it 1st class signed for but that the delay was possibly because of the Jubilee weekend. This is absolute BS because I have received other items sent 2nd class since. I have asked her for proof of posting but nothing.

I sent payment from my credit card via PayPal so I’m wondering whether it appropriate to send her a request for a refund through PP to give her the opportunity to pay the £46 before I up the anti? I can’t help feeling I am being fobbed off.

Suggestions gratefully received!

If it was sent 1st class signed for them they’ll be a tracking number you can track on the Royal Mail website. Ask her for that before you request your money back? It is possible it’s been held up.

Or did you mean she won’t give that to you?

Just not responding to my request for it

If she sent it first class signed for there should be a tracking no I think? Ask for a picture of the receipt from the post office. It would have the tracking and your postcode on it. If she doesn’t have it I would definitely go to PayPal and get a refund

Did you pay Friends and Family or Goods and Services?

If F&F you've lost your money.

G&S you can file item not received with PayPal to get your money back or chargeback via credit card (this will slap a £14 fee on top which PayPal force the "seller" to pay so would be my choice 😈)

Hope you get it resolved.

Unfortunately, I think I used F&F, so lesson learned - thank you though, I didn’t realise there was a difference in consumer rights.

Ah but you used your credit card via PayPal so I think you can still do a chargeback via your credit card company? Might be worth calling them.
