What does food poisoning feel like?

Okay so long story short I think I ate sausages this morning from my local cafe that may have been off. Had covered them in red sauce so hadn't realised they tasted odd until I had already ate 1 and a half. Stomach is feeling a bit sore after about two hrs of eating them. Could it be the start of food poisoning?

I think you would already be much, much sicker than you currently are. Food poisoning makes you pray for death.

Dalekjastninerels · 09/06/2022 16:59

Hope you don't have food poisoning- but for me when I've had it it means nausea and vomitting (all day until I vomit bile or at worst blood) and diarrhea (this part is short lived for me)

rbe78 · 09/06/2022 17:00

Oh you'll know if you have food poisoning. Stomach cramps from hell, and uncontrollable emissions from either end. Fingers crossed...

It depends. Sometimes it takes several hours to kick in. The illest I have ever felt was from food poisoning. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Dalekjastninerels · 09/06/2022 17:02

Also the nausea will be so bad you will make yourself vomit on purpose if you can't tolerate being nauseous.

Nolongera · 09/06/2022 17:10

2 hrs is early doors for food poisoning, worst I ever had took about 6 hours to come on. If you have it, you will know. Get a bucket next to the toilet now, just in case.

dancingmarshmallow · 09/06/2022 17:24

Thanks so much for the replies. Hopefully it's not FP I feel more tummy bug kinda feeling and haven't been sick so I'll keep everything crossed 🤞

My worst one involved cramps starting within 15 minutes. Cold sweats. Having to stop the taxi to vomit within 90 minutes. An hour or so later it flowing out of both ends. A week later ending up in hospital on IV drips and antibiotics.

It wasn't 3 months of Asian street food, it was an airport cafe!

Bluebellsand · 09/06/2022 19:34

My last one gave me diarrhoea that felt like fire. Like the cramps and urgency wasn't enough. But luckily it was only a three day thing.

TulipsGarden · 09/06/2022 19:37

Like the world is trying to exit your body.

Landlubber2019 · 09/06/2022 19:41

Looked as though DH was having a heart attack, hot, sweaty, palpitations, pain, complexion grey. Ambulance arrived and then, diarrhea followed by the most violent vomiting I have ever witnessed 😩😩😩

bevelino · 09/06/2022 19:46

The cramps you get with food poisoning caused by a pathogen can be horrific. I actually thought I was going to die.

LaQuern · 09/06/2022 20:16

When I had food poisoning I started off feeling fluey then all hell broke loose a couple of hours later.

Never felt so ill in my life

Thebeastofsleep · 09/06/2022 21:18

I could shit through the eye of a needle. And it burned. I shot so much I shat out the mucus that lubricates your poo. It hurt to poo for days after. The vomit was so violent it came out my nose. And burned. I vomitted every 15 minutes. My stomach muscles hurt like I'd done a million sit ups.

Ice lollies (the cheap water and sugar type) work well if you can't keep water down.

user1471453601 · 09/06/2022 21:38

My food poisoning started about 36 hours after eating undercooked chicken. The first thing I realised is that i had slept until 2:00pm. Unusual for me, but sleeping when I'm ill is my norm.

I then felt so uncomfortable with bloat. I vomited twice and then loose bowels kicked in. I was on holiday, and after a week visited the local doctor, who put me on a drip and gave me something to take with water.

I had to take imodium in order to get home (over an hour on a ferry, three quarters of an hour in a taxi, and four hours on a plane.)

I contacted my doctor who ended up(after a stool test) giving me antibiotics, which cleard it up.

I recall that the stomach pains,at their worst, felt just like Labour pains, waves of pain from just under my bust to my groin .

If made it all worse by taking imodium, but didn't feel that I had a vhoicew.

Ishacoco · 09/06/2022 22:10

How are you feeling OP??

I once got horrendous food poisoning from an M&S pre-prepared salad. As others have said, you will know! For me it started quickly but was over the worst within 36 hours. I needed full and free access to a bathroom during those 36 hrs though!!!!

Kudos to the OP who managed to travel home 😱😱😱

Devonchills · 09/06/2022 22:57

If it's food poisoning, it will be shooting out of both end at the same time. Horrific. On the plus side I felt like I had had a good detox, and had a load of energy after a day or two!
Good luck!

IncessantNameChanger · 09/06/2022 23:06

From experience it can start with mild upper gi pain but theres no mistaking the feeling of blush. You know what coming as its starts off with mild pain but also feeling sick, like the rumbling of distant thunder, you can see it yet, but you know what's coming. Normally doomed when you utter the words 'I feel a bit sick...'

tiredanddangerous · 10/06/2022 07:28

How are you this morning @dancingmarshmallow ? I hope you haven't spent the night on the toilet with your head in a bucket!

dancingmarshmallow · 10/06/2022 07:42

Hello everyone thanks for all your messages. I felt really off all night with bad stomach pains but thankfully I have woke up and feel fine. Definitely has put me off sausages for a bit tho lol 😂
