Electric Scooter

My daugther turns 10 next month and never wants anything for Christmas or birthdays.
She's recently mentioned a electric scooter as she's tried a friends. Are they a bit of a whim, any recommendations. We have lots of off road cycle routes, so may get used.

Is that your shop fabfab?

They're illegal off private land and can be very dangerous. I've seen a 9-inch bruise from one tipping on the pavement at only 5mph and it was gnarly.

They aren't legal to ride on public roads, pavements or footpaths, so unless you own or have access to totally private (not public) land there's no point. The police where I live have started cracking down on them and confiscating them.

I work on a brain injury unit and they really are dangerous. People get them (especially children it seems) who don't have the executive functioning skills to be able to predict hazards or adequately respond in time, on what is effectively a powerful machine. The results are not pretty and can be life changing. Ditto for the poor pedestrian they may have encountered.

There are some kids near me who have them and ride in the middle of the road round corners. I'm genuinely surprised they've yet to be injured. Please, any responsible parent who is considering getting an electric scooter... Don't!
