Driving myself nuts over job interview

Please talk me down off the ceiling as I'm so stressed.

Made it to second interview on Monday for a job I'm very much qualified for. Tick all of the boxes on paper, got on well with the director who conducted the second interview. It's down to me and one other, she told me that.

I really want this job. I'm unhappy in my current one due to lots of reasons. This is a sideways step, not a promotion. Although it's a little extra money.

But I've convinced myself that as they haven't got back to me yet it's bad news. I know it's only two days since the interview but they said they'd make the decision this week. They also know I'm on two weeks leave from the end of this week.

Tell me that two days is nothing and it's not necessarily a no?

I’ll wait with you! I’ve got an interview tomorrow for something I really want (interesting job, better hours, more money!). Get a nervous flip thinking about it! I’m a firm believer in “What’s meant for you doesn’t pass you by”…but I really want this job!

With yours, could it be they’re waiting for references before offering you the job? I had a delay of a week once waiting for that! (I got the job!).

I’ve had a five day wait for an offer where I was first choice. There’s also the possibility of not being first choice but the other deciding against!

I don't think they asked for references, I just applied with my CV. But they know who I work for so that might be a good point.

I forgot to mention the main cause of my paranoia. I'm over 50 and I think if I'm competing with someone younger and glam I won't have a chance.

I feel your pain! I'm starting a new job next month. It took them two weeks to come back to me after the first interview (I was obvs convinced I didn't have it) and I had to chase them for an answer after the second interview.

All is not lost by any means. But if you do get a negative, just try to reframe the experience as a practice for the next interview you have. Ask for feedback, use it to inform the story you tell about yourself going forward, and apply for some more jobs.

Got fingers crossed for you OP! Two days is nothing, DH had a two week wait to find out about his current job! I have an interview for a job I really want on Friday...first interview in a decade, am so nervous!

Aarrgh I don't know why I put myself through this at my age.

I hear you about the age worry. I'm in my 40s but in a 'young' sector and I am worried that they may prefer someone with more youth. But that's out of my control...it's not a nice thing to add to the stress though!

I hate the wait but no news is good news

They may be off sick or off looking after sick children etc. Be positive.

Oh god I remember this.

They "hunted" me, as in, I didn't apply. They rang and asked me to interview.

I wasn't even that bothered, was the most honest interview I've ever given (and they'd had from they said after).

Confirmed they wanted a second interview with me less than 24 hours later....it then took a MONTH to get that second interview.

Then it took a day for them to confirm the job was mine.

That month killed me though.

All is not lost, by any stretch!

Gap between first interview and contact for second one was a week. They said they'd be moving fast when I spoke to them on Monday - this doesn't feel fast!!

Would you chase at this stage? Or is to too early? Want to know what's what before I go on holiday.

I got the job!!! In contrast to you - I guess I was last interviewee of the day - they asked me to wait outside, discussed it and offered it to me there and then! 😊

Give yourself permission to be bummed out and then regroup on Monday. Try and think of it as a practice run for your upcoming interview where you're going to get offered the job.

Yeah it was really close apparently, the other person just had a bit more experience in one aspect of the role. Very bummed out. Consoling myself with 🍷
