The weather

I know there are worse things happening in the world.

But why is the weather so shite? It’s June! Bloody freezing and constant rain and no sign of it getting any better. I don’t want a heatwave, just some sunshine and for the kids to be able to wear shorts!!!

It will miraculously become very hot and sunny around mid July 😉

Laiste · 08/06/2022 20:00

But seriously i agree with you and was moaning at DH earlier and saying the same. He said it's not summer yet and i said But it's JUUUUNE! I'm sure June is usually better than this.

humph

June is mid summer. The longest day is in a couple of weeks. Meant to be fairly pleasant by Friday though.

Abracadabra12345 · 08/06/2022 20:03

Where are you? It’s been in the 20s in the SE

I was thinking this in the car. Depressing isn't it.

Laiste · 08/06/2022 20:04

The longest day being nearly on us already bit.

Goldfishjones · 08/06/2022 20:05

Ugh totally agree it's so British.

dudsville · 08/06/2022 20:06

I keep being amazed by the date, that it was May and now June and still no stretch of decent weather. I keep thinkingit's still early spring! I mean, i know all we get are stretches off a week or two at most, but come on 2022, be better!

PeskyRooks · 08/06/2022 20:07

What annoys me is it's been hacking down all day, so dark I've had to have the lights on, and now I'm putting dds to bed the sun has come out and is blazing through the curtains!

It's still blowing a gale though.

PeskyRooks · 08/06/2022 20:11

I remember last year though when I was calling August 'Augtober ' because it was so cold and rainy!
It seems fairly pleasant is the best we can hope for. I mean I like autumn and winter, but in it's correct place as a contrast to summer!

TargusEasting · 08/06/2022 20:33

Climate change is now undeniable. In fact, Nobel Prizes are given for work on it.

Cooler dryer Springs into early Summer is becoming the trend. That has been the case for four consecutive years now. We stop our log burner around the first week in June. In 13 days time daylight starts shortening. The change in the growing season is more noticeable on our holding through from September to December where it is milder and wetter. We now plant veg and salad in July/August for overwintering. The benefit is there are less bugs compared to planting earlier. In the 1970's and 1980's the heat in April and May would melt the tarmac. I have not seen that happen for 30 years.

Laiste · 08/06/2022 21:32

@TargusEasting yes, back in the late 70s early 80s we always had our family holiday in August and (and i'm not just saying this) it used to be HOT nearly every day. I know this because my dad owned a caravan on a Dorset campsite and with him being self employed we would go at the beginning of Aug and just stay for 'as long as the weather holds up'. Most years we'd be there 3 full weeks. Now we're lucky to get more than 2 consecutive hot days in Aug !

July seems the safer bet nowadays. We've been dead lucky with our weather in July on our UK holidays for the last 5 years on the trot.

It’s the first day it’s rained here (yes, I’m scotland!) for as long as I can remember! Although it’s made up for it as it’s been miserable all day. But the gardens needed it! I wore shorts for much of last week, spent all Saturday on the beach in them.

2020 had record-breaking sunshine hours and temperatures in May for the whole UK (April was good too)

This year is - anecdotally at least - the worst Spring for years where I am (Lancashire). Other years have had random cool spells but nothings been as consistently damp and cool as this.

otoh, the bluebells were fabulous this year and lasted for weeks!

It will be sunny within two or three days of schools returning in September. Last year the day most resumed (in England that is).
