Deregistering by Doctors. Help!

Hi, moved area! Updated my doctors and had a letter to sat I'm being deregistered.
As always I leave everything until the last minute and i got the dates muddled when it was happening.
Been in new doctors to sign up and was told they could have me on their records by the 13th - all good. Came home and checked the letter off my old surgery and I'm being deregistered on the 12th!
Stressed now, rang new doctors back and they said it will now take weeks until I'm on their records as they'll have to apply for paper ect rather then electronically!
Rang my old doctors no answer..
What are the chances if I ring my old doctors tomorrow they will extend my deregisteration by a few days is there any chance? I'd happily pay a fee.
Sorry if this is a boring post I'm really stressed now unsure what to do, have a important hospital app on Tuesday n it'll have no report sent anywhere as I'll now not be with a gp.
My own fault for being disorganised.. 🙄

I don't understand what the problem is here, maybe it's my comprehension but I'm picking up that the old surgery takes you off on the 12ish and the new one is having you from the 13th?

I think you could just tell the secretary of the department to forward to your new surgery, the old gp will probably do that too

If you need a gp in the meantime you/dc can be a temporary patient. Many Gps have fixed areas to cover and if you move and they have high demand your practice can delist you.

I think basically on the 12th the old surgery wipe your records, the new surgery may not apply for the records until the 13th and by then the records will be gone x

If you get ill on 12th, go to the old doctor.

If you get ill on 13th, go to the new doctor.

Or have you not explained it properly?

Records won't be deleted they transfer.

Nobody is wiping your records.

Just call the old GP and explain, they should be fine to keep you on an extra few days if you tell them the situation. This happens all the time at my work.

Ah good idea I could ring the secretary of the old surgery, explain what I've been told and ask if they could transfer the records straight away.
The new practice said to ask them for an extension just for a few days but no idea if they'll do this.
I wouldn't be worried waiting a few weeks it's just with my hospital app the write up report will not be able to be sent anywhere.

GP here. I think you are confusing two issues: the registration and when the new GP gets your records.

From what you have said, you will be registered with the new GP from the 13th. The outpatients letter will go to the new GP, so no worries there (and, if it goes to the old GP by mistake, it will be forwarded).

Your new GP is correct that it can take ages to receive the records from your old GP (not the old GP's fault - it's because they have to go back via a central NHS agency, which takes weeks). However, you can receive care from the new GP from day 1 of being registered.

Honaloulou I'm not sure if I've explained it properly as I'm a bit confused myself, basically the new surgery said I could be on there records by Monday the 13th but when I said I'm being wiped off on the 12th at the old surgery they said that's too late so I will have to wait weeks to be on their systems as it'll have to be sent over by paper as I'll no longer be registered with a gp.

They can't do this but see my previous post. There is no need to worry. We have lots of patients who are far less organised that you, and it all sorts itself out 😀

You might not officially have a GP for 1 day but your records won’t be wiped

I asked how long until I'd be registered there, she said they send forms over electronically within a week and ishould be on the system by Monday the 13th.
When I rang back and explained about being deregistered on the 12th the receptionist said that's too late for electronic records to be sent over so will have to be done via paper and will now take weeks until I'm fully registered at New pracice, she said I should ring old doctors for a extension do u think they would allow this? X

Ask at your hospital appointment for a paper copy of your appointment results/report. Then you can have it on you if something happens and you need to see your new GP before your notes arrive there.

If you are registered at surgery 2, you can't be a registered patient at surgery 1 any more, but either surgery can see you as a temporary resident. Don't worry about it - lots of people forget to register with a new practice for months. Hopefully, you won't need medical care if there is a short gap and, if you do, you always have the T/R option.

Do you not receive a copy of the hospital letters which you can then take into new surgery if needs be.

If it's the same health board then your records could electronically be sent on registration at your new surgery, it's called GP to GP in my area and your paper notes will then follow. I'm NHS Wales but I've seen some places in NHS England send computer records by cd with old paper notes in a file. Your notes don't get wiped, they follow you from surgery to surgery by whatever method they use.

I used to work as a gp receptionist. As soon as they have accepted your registration form you are a patient. Your records take time to follow depending on the backlog.

If you have an ongoing medical problem then ask your current gp for a short history print out to take to your new gp. Otherwise stop worrying, nothing bad is likely to happen.

The GP to GP system we use only electronically transfers information of current patients who are transferring out. Ones that have been deregistered or "deducted at GP's request" their notes will not be sent electronically, neither will they be transferred electronically if the patient is re-registering or their notes are too bulky.

Your new surgery can ask your old surgery for a brief print out of medication so your new surgery can prescribe but for the sake of a day I would ensure that any medication is ordered from your old surgery before you are transferred out.
