I've got my first cold sore ever and I'm about to get married

My toddler got a cold sore at nursery and I tried so hard but I've just woken up and the middle of my top lip is swollen and tingly. It's big. I'm about to get married and I'm in tears. I've never had one before. Will I get lots? I keep seeing outbreak online. Will it just be this one? How often am I likely to get more? I'm so upset Sad

Oh you poor thing, though if it's any consolation you have lovely lips and teeth!

febrezy · 08/06/2022 20:56

I want to tear the patches off the itching is just unbearable. I don't know why my face is itchy too. I'm panicking that it's all just getting worse. I'm going to look awful on my wedding day Sad

Have you taken an anti histamine tablet? That might stop the itching.

febrezy · 08/06/2022 21:34

I took the patches off and put on a dab of tea tree oil and Zovirax and it's significantly less itchy - still very itchy but it felt unbearable with the patches on. I keep getting an itchy forehead, nose, chin and eyelids but I'm wondering if it's just from me fretting that its spreading. Surely I can't be that unlucky that my entire face is going to become one big cold sore.

I will put some patches back on for bed time and pray the itchiness doesn't keep me up all night Sad

OP if your DP says he deals with them in X or Y way then at least he’s already got the virus and you won’t need to not give him a kiss at your wedding service!

I’ve seen a dermatologist for coldsores as they wouldn’t budge. I had the tablets and the lysiene. What a difference even within 48 hours. Don’t worry about frequent recurrence I found even one course of both means now I am almost rid of them.

I know it’s hard but the stress won’t help. A massive trigger for me is sunlight - so it’s usually at the start of the summer, or a sunny holiday, combined with stress.

You’ll be fine I’m sure.

I wouldn’t be kissing anyone on the lips unless I was 100% sure it was gone.

Can you postpone the wedding?

No one warned me the patches make them itch even worse. Gah!!

They don't. Usually

ofwarren · 09/06/2022 09:27

The acyclovir tablets should do the trick. When I take them, it doesn't progress any further. I reckon it's healing now. It might not even scab.

LyndaLaHughes · 09/06/2022 16:16

How is it now?

febrezy · 09/06/2022 19:32

Excellent news!

friskybivalves · 09/06/2022 21:15

Wow - what a difference.

ofwarren · 09/06/2022 21:28

Those acyclovir pills are like magic. My son has to have them whenever he gets a cold sore because he's immunosupressed. The cold sore is gone within 48 hours. None of the scabbing or anything.

EveryName · 09/06/2022 21:31

Your lips look fine now! Looks like you have got away with it.

You have very pretty lips and teeth 🙂.

I hope you are feeling more relaxed and can now just concentrate on enjoying the run u to your wedding.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2022 22:18

That's great news :) I hope Saturday is a beautiful day for you.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/06/2022 02:14

Never have I been so invested in someone else's cold sores.

Have an absolutely wonderful day frebrezy.

mackthepony · 10/06/2022 02:18

All I can say is that you have my utter sympathy.

I get coldsores and they are truly awful.
And yes, it's has reduced. It'll dry out now.

avamiah · 10/06/2022 02:25

yeah I used to take the pills and cream on holiday with me if I was taking a long haul flight as I used to get so stressed out with travelling .
Once I took the pills a couple of days before flying I never had a single outbreak.
I always have a tube of Zovirax with me at home and when I travel.

TheTeenageYears · 10/06/2022 03:27

I get them when stressed and always make sure I have a way to treat the very early signs whenever I stray away from home for more than just the day. I also couldn't survive without lip balm- it might be psychosomatic but if my lips are ever allowed to become dry I'm sure I'll end up with a cold sore. All the topical & medication you've had will have dried out your lips so make sure you regularly use lip balm now. All the very best wishes for your big day.

Wallywobbles · 11/06/2022 07:45
