We are going to Blackpool for the weekend.
Driving from Newcastle upon Tyne on Friday
Coming home Sunday
How much petrol money shall I give my friend?
She said she doesn't want any but I want to pay my half.
I paid for the hotel as she is driving us down but I still want to pay for petrol.
I don't drive so no clue
Is £40 enough ?

You’re paying for the hotel, she’s paying for the travel. Sounds pretty fairly split to me 🤷‍♀️

NewbieDivergent · 07/06/2022 15:24

I wouldn't as you've paid for the hotel.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/06/2022 15:25

I'd give her the cost of a full tank. My car is tiny and £40
Will no longer fill it. (Used to get a full tack for £30 😢)

RosemaryJuice · 07/06/2022 15:25

Yeah if you’ve paid for the hotel then I’d have thought the travel costs were covered.

BattenburgDonkey · 07/06/2022 15:25

You’ve paid for the hotel and friend has said no thanks, I wouldn’t push on it, maybe just buy them a drink or something. I’m sure friend wants to pay their way too.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/06/2022 15:25

Oh just re read, as you e paid for the hotel. That's seems fair.

Parky04 · 07/06/2022 15:25

Sounds like you are pretty even to me. She has said she doesn't want any money so please don't embarrass her!

AmbushedByCake · 07/06/2022 15:26

It's about 150 miles each way, so depending on fuel efficiency and how much petrol prices go up, you're looking around £30 each way. (Less if your friend drives a shoebox like my car.) I'm sure your hotel cost more than £60.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/06/2022 15:53

The cost of her petrol and wear and tear on her car is probably about the same as 2 nights in a hotel in Blackpool, so you're even so far. You don't owe her anything.

For food, drink and activities during the weekend, you can split everything, or take it in turns, either way, it'll work out even, unless one of you eats or drinks more than the other or has more expensive tastes.

That could be expensive, I’ve just paid £175 to fill up in Newcastle at £1.999 per litre.
