Are krill supplements supposed to smell this bad?

I've just bought some krill supplements, 500mg. However, they smell really strong, the smell from the pack is overpowering, so much so I had to wash my hands after touching them as the smell had transferred. I'm taking them in addition to cod liver oil capsule, which has no detectable smell.

I'd just like to check this is normal?

Is that you Moby?

If they smell really fishy and strong then they're rancid and you shouldn't take them.

Are you being serious? I didn't know there were environmental implications, if so. I won't buy more if that's the case.

I don't know that it's rancid, but it's so strong a fish smell it's overpowering.

They shouldn't smell fishy at all though I don't think.

These have massive environmental implications. Taking krill means a lot of ocean life has its food source removed. Please don't buy these supplements.

Chemenger · 07/06/2022 13:23

Huge environmental problems. Krill are a vital part of the ecosystem of the oceans and they are being overfished.

jennywasvexed · 07/06/2022 13:30

Well that's decided it then. I really had no idea other than health benefits, and was already taking cod liver oil. I should have checked more thoroughly.

I'll stop taking them, as pps seem to think the smell isn't right, but I won't be buying more.

I'm so glad I posted now. Thanks everyone.

Sorry Jenny, but cod is overfished too. People should stop worrying about playing naturalist and leave that to the governments.

Use whatever supplement helps you. And yes, fresh-out-of-the-bottle red krill oil capsules stink like rotten prawns but 500 mg a day is helping me.
