Are you from Hartlepool? Or anywhere near? Thornton Street is very near to the town centre and I wouldn’t say it is a desirable area to live in. It did undergo a bit of a facelift a while back which created a small area of green space.

I grew up in Hartlepool and still go back regularly to visit friends. In fact I lived close to Thornton Street, so I don’t want people to think I am bashing Hartlepool.

It is what it is, I find it charming and the people are very friendly, but it is not somewhere I would recommend someone who didn’t know it to move to without spending a reasonable length of time there. It is an acquired taste, and Thornton Street is bang in the middle of Hartlepool, so you would have nowhere to hide!

When we left Hartlepool we sold our house to a couple who had never visited before but were lured by the cheap housing. They only lasted 18 months before moving away again.

Hartlepool does have the best fish and chips and gorgeous beaches though!

Well, there are many kind people in Hartlepool, I can guarantee that!
If you can then go and spend a few days there, go into the town centre and see what you think. Bear in mind that it has been neglected by most governments for many years, and has suffered accordingly.

I wish you the best of luck in your search and I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Hartlepool is right up there for friendly people. My family are from Hartlepool and I love visiting. I have family that live a few roads over from Thornton street and it's fine. Where are you moving from? I live 400 miles away and it's very different to here... like other posters said, I'd try staying there for a bit before you decide. What job will you be working in when you move?
