This is a very convoluted clue but if you do have the cold word I'm about to ask about I think it might help.

Have you got a cold with score 15.97 related to 888? I tried the 'other' option related to when you 888 but it wasn't recognised (it is definitely a word though). You could decide to [999] your 974 to [cold with score 15.97] or to [related word not recognised ] or to a mix.

It looks even more convoluted now I've written it out 😂

I don't think it's a an everyday sort of word. It's not obscure, but perhaps one which most people don't often use unless they're dealing with 974

I would say the opposite! It's a word that can be used in relation to a number of fairly ordinary things.

It's weird how the brain works isn't it. Some days I can get it quite quickly and help others with clues and today my brain is erm nope

I didn't actually get it on the 888 / 974 route. I had 883 and 943. They led me to a couple of related words which then got me to [target] but I'm struggling to think of a clue for those that doesn't just give it away!

I now have 996, am I on the right lines?

I'm stuck - my highest are 993, 991, 972, 965 and 960 - then its down to 883, 882 and 879, and then loads of other hits.

It's not really a word from that industry. It's a word that can be used in lots of contexts.

Sometimes it's out of your control what you are 999d and other times it's your choice. One of the situations where it's out of your control is the subject of lots of threads on here concentrated on two or three single days each year. You express preferences but the [target] is decided following a set of rules.

@AuntieStella deciding the 883 you are 879 in different things could be described as a [target] of your 972
