Period skipping tablets

Hi

Holiday in July to Disney in Florida and my period is due the day after we go! I don’t fancy feeling rubbish in that heat and humidity. Has anyone used the period skipping tablets? Do they have any side effects? Do they definitely work?

thanks!

Yes, have used norethisterone, not side effects and it worked.

Brilliant! No period symptoms either? Feel normal?

Of course there could be side effects!!! Its a synthetic hormone! Some people won't have side effects, but like any drug- others will. Its just the pill but taken 2 months in a row to miss a withdrawal bleed. Side effects can subside with time- but if you are only starting it now and hoping it works next month then there are no guarantees. I personally would pack extra nurofen and tampons than suddenly trying a pill in the hope it makes you feel better in a few weeks. Yes, its fine for many, but I personally found my moods far worse, weight gain, swollen boobs and general irritability much worse than being off the pill.

Yes I've also used this, the nurse prescribed me it when I needed a smear but wasn't having a regular period.
I was a bit bloated but fine otherwise

Yes I took norethisterone at Easter for our Florida holiday. I got it from Superdrug online chemist, it worked really well and I had no side effects although the period following it was heavier than usual.

confusedofengland · 05/06/2022 22:42

I've used it a couple of times & it has worked. But I still felt irritable whilst taking it. Also my period was a lot worse when it came - more cramps, heavier flow etc. I wouldn't take again if I could avoid it.

Felt fine when taking it but stupidly missed a pill while on holiday and had a period from hell for my second week away, but I do already have bad periods anyway.

AyeEee123 · 05/06/2022 22:46

There is of course the possibility of side effects but it’s not the pill like a pp says.
You take a tablet three times a day starting a couple of days before you are due on and then your period will generally start a couple of days after stopping. I have irregular periods so just started it a couple of days before my holiday and took it for the three week holiday stopping the day we flew home.

imnottoofussed · 05/06/2022 22:47

I've taken norethisterone loads over the years and had no major side effects other than slightly heavier period for the one straight after stopping the tablets. My gp used to prescribe it but I've also had it from online pharmacies including boots

It made me very bloated and a bit moody but that was preferable to a heavy period on holiday!

Chasingclouds100 · 05/06/2022 22:55

I took norehisterone when my period was due on my wedding day, it worked! No side effects as such just a very slightly heavier period when the next one happened. Why are they always due when nice things are planned??!

Great. Thanks everyone! I can cope with some bloating etc and a bad period afterwards. This is a dream holiday so I just don’t want it being ruined with it!
