Used to go to Aldi occasionally. We now go to Lidl every wkend. I think the bakery drew us there originally but there's a few things which are amazing like the coleslaw and sausage rolls and with the app you can get money off. We got £10 yesterday

Mainly Aldi. They have a slightly better selection of stuff. But there are a few things which are better in Lidl.

I live between 2. Aldi is definitely cheaper, well I spend less. I do like Lidl foreign foods though. I think their fruit is about the same quality. Aldi chocolate maybe slightly better. It's all quite similar but our Aldi staff are way way way nicer, much better customer service, tills opening up etc. Our Lidl staff are rude and seem understaffed. They expect you to use self service till for massive trolley shop which is frustrating. Aldi have no self service which I prefer as I always have a biggish shop.

I go to both. I like Lidl for: the bakery, wide range of aged steaks, really good quality cheap free range chickens, half a side of salmon, Red Leicester cheese, Parmesan, their better wines, Deluxe coffee, Deluxe oat and raisin biscuits.
I like Aldi for the Specially Selected croissants, pizzas, Jersey milk, steaks, free range chicken, Moser Roth 85% cocoa chocolate, Warburtons crumpets.

I go to Aldi because it's closer and my local has good fruit and veg. I used to go to Lidl where I used to live because it was closer. I find both are hit and miss re. Quality of fresh stuff and it depends on the store.
But Lidl has nice fresh bakery which Aldi doesn't.

I hate self service tills. Do they have normal ones too?

They do, but seem very reluctant to open them at all at certain times. I think there are 6 tills and I've never seen more than 2 open at the busiest times. At quieter times, they just don't open any however large your shop is. Could just be my local but it drives me a bit mad. Unfortunately Lidl is easier to access for me traffic-wise and parking-wise than Aldi so I do tend to go there.
