Aldi recommendations

washingwakeup · 03/06/2022 20:24

I've just been to Aldi and picked up some laundry tablets on the recommendation of another poster.

While I was there, I went to pick up some shortbread and noticed they were flavoured and put them back. The lady beside me persuaded me to give them a go, saying how she and her son love them. So I did.

I used to shop at Aldi on and off a few years back, but have become lazy and normally go to Tesco now.

I was wondering what other things I might be missing out on from Aldi?

The little bars of moser Roth chocolate. 5 x 25g bars. I always buy the 85% dark for myself.

However, I’ve discovered the Madagascan vanilla is Devine. I’m not even a fan of white chocolate but needed a little for a cake decoration, I scoffed the other bars.
The salted caramel one is so good that when DH bought the pack of 5 bars & put them in the cupboard for later….well, let’s just say it’s a good job he’s forgotten he bought them because I ate the lot. One after the other Blush

The cheese that goes In The oven for dipping. In the cheese aisle.

The chocolate

The cheese selection is actually very good in our Aldi.

The crisp.

The stuffed crust pizzas

The salted caramel/ chocolate ganache puddings in glass pots like gu but cheaper. Both are divine.

The mango and coconut chicken breasts. And the garlic ones.

The chocolate brioche pull apart bread. Addictive!

Their thai green curry kits are fabulous, as are the halloumi fries, hash brown waffles. Their olive salad is 👌🏻👌🏻

Furrbabymama87 · 03/06/2022 21:08

The chocolate and wine. Macaroni cheese ready meal. Not a fan of the laundry products.

FoggySpecs · 03/06/2022 21:15

I like the nuts, the jaffa cakes and the cheese, and the crisps.

DelilahBucket · 03/06/2022 21:17

The pates are great, especially the 85p ones, with the rosemary crackers, any of the cheeses, microwave rice pouches, tortilla wraps, spiced rum, quite a lot of the specially selected wines (I'm working my way through 😁)

washingwakeup · 03/06/2022 21:30

I have tried the chocolate and the gin. And I approve of both!

I don't eat meat anymore, but I used to love the little round herby chicken slices.

Will need to visit the cheese aisle, and try those halloumi fries.

Their Parmesan shavings are really good.
In my local fruit and veg fab.
Their seeded thins (like cracker things) are delicious
Lighter than light mayo (I can't taste the difference from Heinz.)
Specially selected prawn cocktail crisps.
Face wipes
Skin on oven chips
Part baked bread
Shreddies

Gladragdoll · 03/06/2022 23:07

1kg pack of Swiss muesli
hot cloth cleanser
Large single roll of kitchen towel

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/06/2022 23:10

For my dinner tonight I've had (all from Aldi) tiger bread, very nice ham, Merlot and a selection of cheeses. I love their chocolates.

Sunshinegirl82 · 03/06/2022 23:11

Sun cream!

Hoolahulahoop · 03/06/2022 23:14

You could try doing your whole shop there and then work out what you don't like. That might be easier.

Cereals are great also I love the salmon in the fridge though I'm sure all the fish is nice (skinless is what I buy)
Packets of soup (Ds loves them)
Triple cooked chips
Vienna bread
The almat washing powder

luciatrope · 03/06/2022 23:46

Their vegan range is excellent.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/06/2022 01:57

I do all my shopping in Aldi except for smoked vegan cheese which I get in Tesco.

washingwakeup · 04/06/2022 13:14

I really didn't think they had much veggie/vegan options. Do they have an allocated area for these ranges?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/06/2022 18:10

Yes they do on our one, 2 huge freezers and one chiller section.

TheDuchessOfMN · 04/06/2022 18:11

Sweet potato fries are 🤤

Mydogmylife · 04/06/2022 18:17

scottish raspberry gin liqueur - absolutely to die for

jacintaq · 04/06/2022 18:22

This was the only place open yesterday evening and it's not somewhere I'd usually choose to shop, but the sushi was pretty decent as were the packs of fruit. I think I'll have to return, so watching your thread with interest.

QuebecBagnet · 04/06/2022 18:26

The frozen flatbread pizzas are lush

interesting you say the laundry tablets are recommended. I bought the powder and my gym kit still stunk, went back to persil.

MissyB1 · 04/06/2022 18:27

All the cereals, their specially selected nutty muesli is my favourite. Dh loves their porridge oats.
Their version of magnum ice creams- fantastic value.
The buttermilk pancakes.

Ive tried their Laundry liquids and softeners but didn’t like them. I go to Asda or Wilkos for those now.

Snowwhite83 · 04/06/2022 18:43

Like their frozen section especially
Minted lamb shanks
Frozen duck legs
Salmon wellington with prawns.
Yummy

dunpaying · 04/06/2022 19:09

Was a regular Aldi shopper until I moved home 5 years ago
Been going to Tesco - purely for convenience mostly , noticed today I'd spent £42 on what normally costs me about £30 and filled the car for £83 quid !!!! Used to be £65 max

Think I might try the new Lidl just built or find another Aldi

The salted caramel/ chocolate ganache puddings in glass pots like gu but cheaper. Both are divine.
