I'm having a dilemma I'm hoping to get some perspective on. I recently interviewed for a new job and I'm awaiting hearing if I have been successful although have heard unofficially that I have been. Which one would you choose?

Job 1: Higher wage, longer commute, better working hours around childcare and no weekend work. Not a sector I want to continue working in. This is my current job, I have recently been off with stress due to constant pressure from a supervisor I do not get on with. In general not a brilliant place to work. No sick/maternity package etc.

Job 2: 25% wage drop (and 8 hours less a week) but can afford it, overtime available sporadically, in a different sector I want to work in, shorter commute, includes weekend and evening working (childcare can still be covered), large company with better benefits, such pay more holiday etc.

Can anyone enlighten me? Is my sanity more important than money/weekends off? Driving myself mad here!

Why would you stay somewhere that is making you ill? Take job no.2. Even if you end up not liking the evening/weekend aspect you can then look for something else but it's worth the risk IMO if you can afford the salary decrease.

Thank you @ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler very good point, somehow I can't seem to see the wood for the trees at the minute. Hadn't even thought about it like that.

Agree. Sounds like job 1 is pretty toxic for you. Well done on the new job and very good luck 👍

Hi Op, take job no. 2 and in time perhaps the role can grow and your salary increase. You can afford the drop and your health is more important than money - you should go where you will be happier. Also the second company sounds like a better prospect.

Thanks all, great advice. Helping clear the frazzled mind!

Definitely job 2 and if the weekend/ evening work becomes an issue you can always look for something else in same or similar industry.
