What's in your handbag?

Or, more to the point, what do you aim to keep in your handbag so you have what you need and it's not too heavy?
And how do you organise it?

Keys, phone (with debit card and driving licence), string bag, work fob.

orangeisthenewpuce · 31/05/2022 07:11

Keys, phone, purse, pens, lipstick, little pot of Vaseline, tissues, fruit, lunch (I'm on my way to work), glasses, sunglasses, lanyard, kindle.

Dilbertian · 31/05/2022 07:11

Too much!

Every year or two I go through my bag and filter it down, take out the old receipts, toys, books, hair accessories, snacks, kitchen sink. I've reached that point.

That made me grin!
I'm much like that with my car 😂

Ferngreen · 31/05/2022 07:18

I try not to use one. So credit cards in trouser/jeans pocket and keys in coat pocket.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 31/05/2022 07:18

I don't have one, I mean I do have bags, but I take what I need in whichever bag, or just my pockets that I'm using at the time.
I must also add that I don't have young children!

Onthegrid · 31/05/2022 07:22

I wfh and have no under 18s so I now have a small bag with 3 sections

  1. Glasses, tissues, disposable mask and painkillers

  2. Sanitiser and keys, a fold up bag will fit but I only add if going shopping

  3. Phone, purse, lipstick and headphones.

MintyMoocow · 31/05/2022 07:24

SenoraAveiro · 31/05/2022 07:28

I try not to have to use one!

In my laptop bag is a small make up bag, and my phone.

Nothing else I really need on a work day!

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 31/05/2022 07:28

I have a work bag which has laptop, chargers, headphones, glasses, notepad and pen, hand gel, tissues, random bits of paper. Plus purse, phone and keys.

Then when I don't need that I move purse phone and keys into a small cross body bag. I don't bother with carrying make-up around most of the time. I travel quite light these days!

forlornlorna1 · 31/05/2022 07:32

Purse, keys, inhaler, epi pen, sweetie stash (I'm a gran), hair bobble and few random coins.

Just gave it the monthly receipt and wrapper declutter. Found a fur covered lollipop and a dead slug. Thanks grandson number 2

JudgeRindersMinder · 31/05/2022 07:32

I changed bags for going back to work yesterday so it’s very well organised for once! Purse, lanyard, AirPods, couple of pens, pack of paracetamol, tissues, couple of hair ties, small notebook, charger lead, lipstick, oxo cubes

bluechameleon · 31/05/2022 07:42

Phone, wallet, keys, travel pass, work pass, laptop, diary, plastic folder for papers, couple of pens, stickers for marking (teacher), mini hairbrush, paracetamol, water bottle, lunch bag, sun cream. I think that is it. That's for work, at the weekend I move a few things into a different bag.

You know....chat!
Seriously, I'm trying to streamline and organise, looking for inspiration, and trying to do away with surplus human heads etc 😉

Not much. I don't like carrying loads of crap around.

Purse, keys, phone, earphones, body spray, paracetamol and tissues.

MollyRover · 31/05/2022 08:03

Wallet, keys, phone, face masks*2 and a small makeup bag that has lip balm, hand sanitiser, tissues and maybe some makeup. The small makeup bag gets taken out and emptied regularly, as does the whole bag to be honest. I hate having a rubbish tip for a handbag and now that I'm not out as much I change my bag depending on what I'm wearing.

MissingGrandstand · 31/05/2022 08:20

You say you want to streamline and organise - the only way I can be organised is to do the exact opposite of streamlining!

I have an "essentials" kit, but the only way I can stay organised is to have one of these items per handbag (big bag, laptop bag, small everyday bag x2 as different colours, clutch). I'm well aware this is patently ridiculous but handbags and books are my vices!

Essentials kit (looks a lot but most of these are tiny):
Hair tie
Lipstick
Lip balm
Pen
Mini perfume
Phone charger
Tissues
Painkillers
Antihistamines (horrendous hay fever)
Hand sanitiser
Hand cream (because otherwise I will never ever put it on)

Then phone, keys, AirPods and card wallet are moved with me into whichever bag I'm using. This means whenever a bag is starting to feel cluttered (face wipes, spare nappies that have escaped the changing bag, extra makeup, moisturisers etc) I know I can take out everything barring my essentials kit!

The fact that I own 7 phone chargers (2 for at home and 5 in bags) shows how ridiculous this is for streamlining but it really helps for organisation. And yes I did try to have one kit that I moved around bags but it didn't work for me, I kept forgetting it

Mammma91 · 31/05/2022 08:22

keys, phone, purse, tissues ands toddler DS juice cup. More often than not I have around 10 packets of tissues, anyone with a snotty nose near me is covered for a tissue 😂

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 31/05/2022 08:28

Keys
Purse
Phone
String bag in a bag!
Pouch containing - Spare contact lenses. Fold up hair brush. Lipstick. Mini mirror. Mini perfume. Mask. Hand gel. Tissues. Paracetamol.

I change my bag most days.

Bbq1 · 31/05/2022 08:44

I sort through my bag daily as I often change it.

Purse
Phone
Vaseline lip therapy
Another lip balm
Tweezers
Powder
Eyebrow make up
Tissues
Mini anti bac wipes
Anto bac hand fel
Handcream
Medication
Keys
Sunglasses (if sunny)
Reading glasses(if going to work)

catwomando · 31/05/2022 08:47

@FindingMeno this may sound a bit extreme but...... when I did Kon Marie part of that covers handbags. She said to empty it every time you come back home. I thought that sounded like madness and a lot of work, until I did it. It works like a charm. You decant into (your beautifully organised) storage and then quickly pick up what you need as you exit. That way you don't accumulate loads of shit (and dead slugs), and always have exactly what you need.

Seriously try it. Changed my life from a stressy 'shit I forgot my keys' to knowing I have everything, every time. And I can change handbags easily to suit my needs and outfits. Smile

FindingMeno · 31/05/2022 18:55

@catwomando I really am going to try that - thank you!
I need a system!
