Blue badge

Can anyone advice me about applying for a parking blue badge.
I am not sure if I am entitled, as I don't claim any kind of benefit, but I really feel the need now for disabled parking.
Do you have to be on benefits to get one?
My arthritis has got quite bad now and I find walking too far very painful.
I have it all on record at the gp, with different results etc...
I have tried looking it up, but probably not deep enough, any advice would be gratefully received.
I don't want to claim any money, just help with parking.

You don’t need to be on any benefits to get a blue badge. Some benefit awards act as a passport for a blue badge claim, but you can apply and be assessed without that. Have you searched here?

getting a certain number of points on a PIP mobility award will get you an automatic Blue Badge but you can still apply for a discretionary one if you don't have those points. The forms ask quite a lot of information and it's a good idea to send some medical letters if possible.

I'm not on benefits but have a blue badge due to arthritis. I gave plenty of information and enclosed all the relevant copies of letters from doctors, physios etc.

I applied via council webpage....had to submit evidence of need by ways of Consultant Rheumatologist's letters and OT assessment
I was 54 when first applied and not in receipt of any benefits/PIP but needed blue badge to enable me to return to work as couldn't walk v far due to vasculitis and associated neuropathy and fatigue
It's been a godsend as car park at work is up steep hill but with blue badge I can park near entrance
