York A64 services

Aspoonful · 30/05/2022 21:35

Are there any services on the A64 from M1 to York that you can reach easily from both carriageways please?

I Need a safe place to wait to swap over kids with Ex en route to holidays and I don't know the area at all.

Must have toilets and coffee place as Ex is ALWAYS late !

I'm going York southbound next week. He's going Leicester to Scarborough. I don't want to have to double back or take the kids too far south as then they'll have to go north again on the same road.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Leicester to Scarborough more likely to go M1, M18, A1(M), A64 so you could use Ferrybridge. Although Leicester to Scarborough personally I wouldn't go anywhere near A64, I'd go M62, A614

I realise I haven't really answered your question, just thought you might want to check on routes.

CushionMountain · 30/05/2022 21:46

Wetherby services on the A1(M) would probably be your best bet for that journey. It's got everything you need.

MissDollyMix · 30/05/2022 21:46

Colton/Bilbrough Top is accessible from both sides. Not a proper service station but there’s a McDonald’s and a Starbucks if you’re waiting around.

RomainingCalm · 30/05/2022 21:46

Ferrybridge services (junction of A1 and M62) is probably a good bet. Alternatively the McArthur Glen Outlet just south of York on the ring road might work.

Octomore · 30/05/2022 21:48

Yes - at Bilborough

There's a new services M1 J45 which are very nice with play area etc. couple of junctions south of A64.

bumpytrumpy · 30/05/2022 21:53

I'm not clear from your post where you are going to be, but another option to look at is Balloon Tree farm shop & cafe on A166 which is on way to Scarborough from York. Very nice place to spend a lunch time if he's unreliable with timing.

SnowdropsInSpring · 30/05/2022 21:54

Why don’t you stop off in Tadcaster? Straight off the A64 and some coffee shops (local and costa) plus a supermarket and some nice walks along the riverbank.

PhilippaPhilpot · 30/05/2022 22:00

Yes, Bilborough Top. There's a McDonald's, a Starbucks and a petrol station.

Mnetters are fab, thank you! Knew I'd get some sensible help here Smile

It needs to be somewhere between central York and about half an hour on the journey south (A64 and M1) and preferably less so the kids don't have an hour extra added onto their journey back up to Scarborough.

Tadcaster sounds like an option. Is there somewhere there with parking that's usually easy ie for two cars to easily find each other?

Also looking at the other options PP have suggested so far. Thank you.

Is the one on the A1 (M) accessible from both sides or will one of us have to double back?

JanePrentiss · 30/05/2022 22:07

Definitely look at the Designer outlet... Your ex will be stesight back on A64 passing York and heading up to Scarborough.
It has a covered play area with rope walkways, slides etc and places to eat etc, immediately off A64.

TuTuLemon · 30/05/2022 22:09

If you go to the new Skelton lake services on the M1 they are just off the motorway at J45 (so two junctions south after the A64 joins) so they are accessible for you both, not sure about Ferrybridge at the A1/M62.

There's a free car park in the centre of Tadcaster (easy access to coffee shoes from here). Otherwise, the Sainsbury’s car park. There's a nice swimming pool if he's really late….

The river is in between both and there's a lovely walk alongside it.

I agree York designer outlet sounds a good bet though!

I agree York designer outlet sounds a good bet though!

Is is quite big? Is there an obvious place to park and I could say "I'll be parked outside Starbucks / Costa" etc?

JanePrentiss · 30/05/2022 22:19

Hundreds of parking spaces and clear main entrances,, play area at the front with huge canopy... It would be very difficult to miss it!

Edderkop · 30/05/2022 22:19

Ferrybridge is accessible from all directions.

I don't think it's likely he'll be coming past J45 of the M1.

It's big but the entrances are well signposted so you can say 'I'm by the North entrance', as PP said there is a play area and coffee van and things at one entrance which will be easy enough to meet near.

CushionMountain · 30/05/2022 23:10

Yes, the Wetherby services are next to juntion 46 so you both can come off at the roundabout to get to it

Aspoonful · 31/05/2022 00:57

Thank you all for your help!

York designer outlet has lots of car parks and entrances but only one playground so I would head there to meet him. There is also a coffee van and toilets
