We are having a kind of street party - street not closed but people sitting out in their front gardens for a tea party, music etc

We are having
sandwiches - coronation chicken, egg, cheese and ham
scones, clotted cream and jam
sausage rolls
scotch eggs
battenburg
french fancies
ds1 is making a cinnamon and Nutella cake
ds2 is making marbled cupcakes
I’m considering making a pineapple upside down cake and might make or buy a quiche of some kind…

Theres only 4 of us so it seems like a lot but I’m also really looking forward to it so want to have a nice spread!

People are mucking in with the puddings . We got :
Trifle
Victoria sponge
Cheesecake
Hazelnut brownies

Will also have a sweet table of British retro sweets .

Lots of pimms and G&Ts too . Looking forward to it .

DH won’t play as he is a miserable git, but I might do the following just for me:

Little smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches (brown bread, thinly sliced)
Tyrell’s red pepper crisps
Little sausages (not the pre-cooked weirdly shrivelled ones, but ones I will cook myself)
A slice of quiche
Various salady components (for form’s sake)
Pavlova
Victoria sponge cake
Bottle of very cold champagne

Three families meeting at a park, one doing cakes and scones, one taking a portable bbq for hot dogs, and one doing crisps, dips nibbles etc.

Whatever the food bank provides.

Hooray 🇬🇧

Egg, ham and cheese finger sandwiches.
I’m making my own sausage rolls.
I’m making scones and having jam and cream.
Cupcakes.
Cheese board.
Copious amounts of tea from a teapot and a pinky in the air.

I'm sorry you're in that situation but it doesn't have to be a race to the fucking bottom all the time. Hooray 🇬🇧

Did her poverty offend you?

This isn't a race to the bottom type thread. It's a fucking embarrassment that a nation as developed as the UK has people reliant on food banks.

Herrena if you are in the North East of England, PM me and if local, you can come share our hot dogs and cakes that weekend.

Nat6999 · 30/05/2022 23:00

Hell would freeze over before we would have a celebration meal for that dysfunctional overpaid lot.

yesthatisdrizzle · 30/05/2022 23:12

It's not for that 'dysfunctional overpaid lot' as you put it.

It's for the longest reigning monarch the world has ever known.

nearlyspringyay Maybe you could spend the long weekend searching for sone empathy. How very dare an ungrateful hungry person invade this jolly old thread.

Superslide · 31/05/2022 10:43

Yep, there's an irony in there somewhere where the class system is such that we still have people who can't afford food in order to celebrate the existence of the 'dysfunctional, overpaid lot'...

ifonly4 · 31/05/2022 11:20

Embarrassingly I didn't go to the residents meeting about our street party as I thought it'd be on while I was working - DH went and they told him it was going to be an evening thing so I'm able to go! All he could tell me was it'd be a bbq and someone was getting rolls!
