Apple iPhone or Fitbit - advice from coach to 5K players would be helpful

I’m overweight due to steroid for a couple of years. Doctors say coach to 5K needs to be done sensibly. Long story but health conditions over the last 3 years have put me on EVC etc

so before I do coach to 5 K I’m doing a clean June - lots of walking, water and great diet.

Ultimately I’m going to lose 5 stone but I’ve done myself a goal sheet and going to go in steps of 1/4 stone.

I can’t walk 10000 steps right now so Im going to do 1000 and then build up 10 000 and then 20000 and then it will be July and I will start coach to 5 K but go slowly.

I have an iPhone which I need to take with me as I have multiple Epipens. Ultimately I want to ease off my phone but understand for the rest of my life it will need to be with me every time I go for a walk.

I know I can use my phone but I fancy logging my 1000 steps etc and like the idea of a Fitbit or apple iPhone.

over the last 6 months I have asked everyone I have seen with either about pro or cons

generally people say iPhone does more but poor battery & x4 the price

fitbit would do everything I want except music

what would you choose in my situation and why?

I've switched from Apple Watch to Garmin and I love it. I've just started the C5K and it works really well.

Can you explain why you have and the benefit? 💐thank you

I like the idea of the Fitbit as it is smaller and the Apple Watch as it does more but haven’t looked at Garmin

I have a Garmin Forerunner. It was about £75. It does everything I need. There’s an app and you can log runs on it, plus steps and sleep, etc. I don’t think you need to spend loads.

The Couch to 5k app allows you to play music from Spotify or another similar app, so you don’t need that in a smart watch if you already have your phone with you.

For me the Garmin had all the features I need, steps, training apps and very accurate data for the snippet of the price of an Apple.
The Garmin also has a far superior battery life. Charge it every 3 days and it takes an hour to do.
