For context my mother lives abroad with a completely different health system to the NHS. Our "family" doctor (as in the one that most of us have visited at some point during our lives) is known to prescribe medicine when it hasn't been necessarily the "best practice". Case on point, my sister and I were prescribed amphetamines for weightloss and my sister was a normal, healthy weight but she just felt "fat". I was also prescribed Orlistat, but my BMi was never high enough and gave zero results.
So, my DM trusts this doctor blindly (I don't anymore and have asked multiple times to get a second/third opinion). But she plainly refuses to.
She has a history of anxiety and paranoia (my uncle -her brother- had severe OCD and had to be sectioned), yet she refused to address her MH.
Now, my DM does have a heart condition and she's had a few other conditions here and there, but never gives them proper closure/follow up but still takes that medicine even those events happened 10+ years ago. Said doctor just asks if she feels on and keeps prescribing them, but God only knows if she actually needs them
According to said doctor (but now it's hard to know who said what, because my DM for example up to a few weeks ago claimed she had asthma but yesterday now she says she actually doesn't but takes the blue inhaler for panic attacks). Anyway, so back to said doctor... according to him she has hypothyroidism, diabetes, IBS, (maybe asthma) and I can't remember what else at this point. She does have a serious heart condition and needs to ECGs and blood thinners regularly, but apart from that, I'd take any other diagnose with a pinch of salt.
So what do when she refuses to see any other doctor? I wish someone would advise lifestyle changes over medication and most importantly let her see that some of it could be in her head. Another example is that she thought high triglycerides.were giving her leg pain (when it turns out it was just red meat), but her head had already made the connection.
Sorry about the rant, but I feel hopeless.
