Does anyone use apple pay? I don’t usually use it but I lost my bank card and probably won’t get one till next week now, does anyone know if I can use apply pay every single transaction till new one comes? online it says that I shouldn’t do this and should still keep my bank card (no good if you’ve lost it 🙄) with me as it will stop you after a certain amount of times, does anyone use it all the time? Also what is the max spend on Apple Pay getting mixed things online?

You can use Apple Pay on a cancelled card. You'll have to wait till your bank have given you new card details. You might be able to see them online sooner than getting card in the post

ny20005 · 30/05/2022 10:29

Sorry - *can't

BiscoffSundae · 30/05/2022 10:30

I haven’t cancelled it as I’m certain it’s in my house just can’t find it, my bank let me keep it open till new one arrives then it cancels

I’m not sure about setting up Apple Pay without a card in hand, I thought I needed it but can’t remember now.

I’ve not had it stop me from using it at any point - whether I’ve been lucky and used my card just at the right times, I don’t know. No limit, it treats it as if you’ve used your card, unless the shop themselves have a hard limit. Tesco used to, and H&M, but think both have removed them now.

MummytoCSJH · 30/05/2022 10:51

I use it for almost everything, I prefer it as it shares a virtual card number with wherever I’m buying from rather than my actual one. There’s no limit on because it’s protected by Face ID/passcode.

Soupercat · 30/05/2022 11:00

I love it too. Never use my card, but recently in London on day trips it’s been declined. Rang the bank and they said it’s fraud protection, which might be well intentioned but was bloody annoying.

BiscoffSundae · 30/05/2022 11:00

Thanks both, it was saying that the limit was £45 online which seemed really low!

Mine's been declined occasionally, I keep two cards on it so I can use the other if that happens.

Where I have run into problems is if I have to return something to a shop after using Apple Pay, because of the virtual number thing, I have had to accept giftcards instead of a refund.

Soupercat · 30/05/2022 11:23

Yeah. Just annoying is you’ve done a tube thing with it and can’t tap out!

ElephantLover · 30/05/2022 11:26

Apple Pay has no limit - I have paid for more than £300 in a single transaction. It's the only way I pay now. No more cards for me.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 30/05/2022 11:35

I use Apple Pay all the time and as my default credit card method in person.

It is unlimited BUT I’ve come across a few places that put their own limits on what they would accept payment for.

It is technology though so like anything else I wouldn’t rely on it exclusively if I didn’t have to as you can get the odd glitch.

For contactless cards outside Apple Pay you do have to put your PIN in occasionally.

SwelegantParty · 30/05/2022 11:41

I use Apple Pay for everything, I never take my purse with me these days. The only place I have a problem is pay at pump petrol stations - you have to actually go in as you can't use it at the pump, which is irritating but not the end of the world.

PandaOrLion · 30/05/2022 11:45

I use if for everything. I have a few cards stored on there but can’t remember having issues before. The issues you’re describing (limits and not used for everything) sounds more similar to contactless payments than Apple Pay.

Wallywobbles · 30/05/2022 11:46

I have set it up without the card. Just need all the details.

Wallywobbles · 30/05/2022 11:47

I paid for my horse for 900€+ at the vets with apples pay. Amazing invention.

Wallywobbles · 30/05/2022 11:48

Apple Pay not apples!!

Glittertwins · 30/05/2022 11:51

I use it most of the time as I can't be bothered to take a bag out with me. When I got a new credit card, I didn't have to update it on Apple (unlike all the online sites I use). So, if you know your credit card number, expiry date and cvc code, you can probably still set it up and use.

theemmadilemma · 30/05/2022 12:13

I've not used my card in ages since I set up Apple pay. But I've not used it much online so not sure about that.

BiscoffSundae · 31/05/2022 20:03

Well I’ve already had it declined on 2 buses and had to get off 😣 so definitely not something I will rely on can’t wait for my bank card to come!

How weird. I don't think mines ever been declined. It's the only payment method I use, online and in person. Don't think I've seen my bank card in years!

Iwantcollarbones · 31/05/2022 20:17

There is a limit apparently, not that anyone will tell you what it is. If you use it for a large amount you won’t be able to use it again for that day as I found out at the hotel bar after paying for the hotel. It’s happened to me quite a few times because I always leave my card at home when I travel but has happened after I’ve booked flights then tried to get some shopping etc. Day to day it’s great.

Sounds like your bank has already cancelled your card though which is not helpful.

You shouldn't have accept a gift card. If needed you can go into wallet and see the 'virtual' card number.

EspeciallyDistracted · 31/05/2022 22:30

Well, I was in a rush and it was fine as I shop there a lot but I'll know for another time

Tezza1 · 31/05/2022 22:39

My bank transferred a new bank card to my Apple Wallet overnight the day I lost it and I was able to use it immediately. The physical card arrived a few days later.
