Anyone else trawl the charity shops today? What did you get?

I'm well pleased with what I got:
A nice cooking pot
Books
A washing basket
Soup spoons
A pair of exercise leggings
A teapot
A pair of zara shoes
A little miniature basket for my mum

And I only spent about 20 quid!

also got a nice soft T-shirt for £3

My absolute favourite activity is trawling charity shops. My mother loved it too so I've grown up with it.
Yesterday I got a cashmere and silk fine jumper from Baukjen, a cotton cardigan from Oasis and some navy linen trousers from Fenn Wright Manson. I am well pleased.
I think 90% of my wardrobe is from charity or eBay.

DolphinaPD · 28/05/2022 15:22

👏

I think my best find was a Ralph Lauren bag for 15 quid.

A Radley purse brand new for £3

HarrietSchulenberg · 28/05/2022 15:37

I almost bought a really nice set of wooden handled cheese knives for £3 but decided not to bother. Am kind of regretting it so might pop back in as I've got to go back into town in a minute.
Most of my clothing and possessions come from charity shops.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 28/05/2022 15:40

I knew someone who bought a mulberry purse for a few pounds and sold on eBay for almost £200 😱

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/05/2022 15:45

I love a charity shop trawl! The next village up the road is far more affluent than we are, and my children and I are largely clothed by their cast offs, via the hospice shop in the village.

Last week I got an excellent pair of shell pink pointy ballet flats that will be perfect for the frock I am wearing to a black tie do in a couple of weeks. I’ve never been able to wear heels, combined with size 9 feet, this makes formal shoe shopping very difficult. The gods of charity shopping were smiling on me that day.

White Stuff lamb wool jumper £3
Crewe dress £5
East blouse 99p
WoolOvers jumper £1

Am very pleased with my haul! 😊

Are you on the "charity shop not so shit finds" facebook group? it's fab. All sorts of people sharing their finds with other enthusiasts.

My latest finds were a new Jack Wills summer cotton top for DD at £6, and a pair of BNWT Rohan walking trousers for DH at £12. Not sure of the original selling price of hte top, but the trousers are currently on the Rohan website at £72.

KyaClark · 28/05/2022 16:29

£1 each.

I spend a lot on books so these were a bargain.

Not today but I got a super dry winter coat for DD1 in one for a tenner. We were both delighted!

CactiHug · 28/05/2022 16:34

I love a charity shop trip!

over the last week I’ve got a pair of M&S chino trousers in a lovely shade of light green for £4, a me+em cropped sweatshirt for £5, a dress I’m wearing for a summer wedding for £3 and a couple of digger truck toys for the kids. I’ve been wanting to get diggers to take with us to the beach over summer so was made up to find them! £2 for both of them and one looks brand new.

Movingdreams · 28/05/2022 16:51

I love a good charity shop and these days pretty much choose to shop in them first before High St shops. Not today but I’ve had so many bargains -

The White Company cashmere gloves - 50p, still with tags
Polarn O’Pyret fleece jacket for DS, new £2
Nike running trainers £3, brand new
Lego set, unopened £5
GAP Star Wars sweatshirt for DS - £1, as new
M&S wool coat £3
NEXT jeans, as new £2
Ralph Lauren polo shirts for DH x 3, £3 each. Almost new condition
Damsel in a Dress £2
M&S Per Una padded jacket £3
Books - have bought huge amounts over the years for next to nothing for DS and I

So many things I can’t list them all! You can get such bargains if you visit regularly and it makes me think twice about paying a lot more for similar/same things. Good recycling for the planet too.

Begonias · 28/05/2022 16:51

I bought a lovely burgundy florelli tote bag for £10, a Rowallen leather cross body bag for £7.99 both with original price tags on!!
I love spending my weekends hunting for bargains

Really?! In my experience, you have to go to charity shops in posh areas to get clothes like these -but they tend to know the value of their wares and price accordingly.

Stroopwaffels · 28/05/2022 17:13

Can you all please come back the next time there's a thread on AIBU bitching about charity shops with posters piling in to say that all there is in charity shops is bobbled Primark t-shirts for £25?

2bazookas · 28/05/2022 17:14

All right, there is to be NO LAUGHING. Today in the charity shop I bought a very good wheeled zimmer for £3. We are fit healthy active 75 yr olds who plan ahead. One day at least one of us will get decrepit, have mobility problems, and we're already prepared. It can live in the shed until needed.

Movingdreams · 28/05/2022 17:17

@Cuckoo48 I get most of these best finds from the Cancer Research shop which has nothing over £3. We are in a MC area, definitely not posh! But also BHF, and Age Concern a lot too. I almost never buy in Oxfam as I thinks it’s very over-prices around here.

2bazookas · 28/05/2022 17:20

As well as the zimmer I bought a can of second hand paint (£1) for a comunity art project at the allotment. Paint was why I went to the charity shop.

Last week (same shop) i splashed £5 on a bedside chest of drawers (solid but badly in need of upcycle) for son's spare bedroom. Next to my bed. Why don't his generation understand guests need a place to park a reading light, their glasses, water, book, pills, watch etc etc.

Titsflyingsouth · 28/05/2022 17:30

Last time I was in town I trawled and found a pink cord jean jacket which fits perfectly Grin

Currently on hols and have found out there's a flea market happening tomorrow morning. (Flexes wallet opening fingers)

NormalForNuneaton · 28/05/2022 17:32

What sort of areas do those of you quoting amazingly low priced quality items live in?

I've had some bargains over the years but never such great prices as these.

Around here (a Worcestershire town) minimum prices seem to be tshirts £3.50, tops £4.50+, trousers £6+, dresses £7+ and those aren't top brands either.

My best ever buy though was years ago ...a Nintendo DS for £1. It wasn't charged and had no charging lead so was sold as seen ie. risk of it never working but it did work!

BeastOfBODMAS · 28/05/2022 17:34

I spent £5.50 on 2 pairs of as new dungarees, shorts and leggings for my 6 month old

Her cotbed came from the same place, I was there as it was donated and the manager offered for £20 if she didn’t have to bother assembling it !

islamann · 28/05/2022 21:39

Earlier in the week I was talking to DH about our summer hols and saying I fancied a white linen shirt to wear over stroppy dresses as a cover up from the sun. Found one for £3.99 that very afternoon in my local hospice shop.

islamann · 28/05/2022 21:40

Strappy ffs.

Treecloudtree · 28/05/2022 21:46

I hope everyone is sat down because I think I have the best find of the day.
