Nagging children

My children are 11 and 9, I hoped by now they would understand the concept of adults having to get on without household tasks without them. We have to do some big households tasks today and have told the children to entertain themselves. They literally can’t leave me alone. Interrupting me all the time asking for things they can do themselves. Wanting to know what we are doing that’s fun. I feel like I am supposed to be a bloody redcoat!

I have had to be really blunt with them and have told them to leave me alone. Sometimes in life boring jobs have to be done and they are not the centre of the universe.

They are usually good and patient kids but something about half term turns them into brats. It makes me feel like a bad parent but surely it’s reasonable to tell kids no sometimes!? We have fun stuff planned later in the week which they know about.

Mine are just like this. They don't want me to do things. They want me to watch them blow bubbles or talk to me about books. Aaargh.

Yes! Mine ignore me except when I am busy or trying to relax. It’s like they are jealous of me giving my time to anything else!

I usually tell them if they are that bored I will give them some jobs to do. Would you like to do the dusting usually clears them off fairly quickly.

I think most kids do this, the second you start doing something suddenly they need your undivided attention.
