Misheard Lyrics

So just yesterday I realised I've had the lyrics wrong to Gangsters Paradise. I thought it went:

"Young Shaney lost her life, living in a gangsters paradise"

Was so shocked to realise it's actually:

"Been spending most their lives, living in a gangsters paradise"

I've been singing it wrong since it was released, that's a lot of times I've heard it!! I actually had an image of this young girl who died after joining a gang, I realise it sounds daft now but I never questioned it before! Not sure I even like the real lyrics.

Anyone else mis-heard this one, or any other examples to make me feel better??

Well possibly with that particular lyric, but many of us regularly mishear lyrics.

I was scared to click the link in case I had got the Cottoneye Joe lyrics wrong too...thankfully I had that one correct 😅 Oo will enjoy reading the thread and should help me feel better!!

It's the mishearing it for so many years that troubles me, how did I never notice!!

I never understood why my dad fell about laughing when I sang along to 'Mummy is a rhubarb weevil'. Turns out it was 'money is the root of all evil'...

For 30 years I heard-

Golden Brown, texture like sun

The lyrics are-

Golden Brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my arch heroes

No it isn't
It's "lays me down, with my mind she runs"

I was playing the wrong bit of the song back in my mind (whatever that is these days....). Were you hovering to wait for me to fuck up. 😁

There is no "arch heroes" in any of the song. Google it.

OK. Lighten up though.

I misheard as "calling Chuck Baker" for last 25 years'

@woodhill Chuck Baker 😂This is particularly good due to making up a person! Although I suppose that's technically what I did with Young Shaney!

@Knittedfairies My Mum had good laugh at me when at 8 years old I wrote down all the Bugsy Malone (the movie, not the grime artist!!) lyrics to help me sing along to all the songs. I don't think I got a single word right!

I've been singing coco heart to Elton John's cold cold heart,thought he was singing about a woman called coco until very recently.

@kerkyra Bloody hell I thought it was Coco too...his fault for not pronouncing the 'D' in cold, silly man...

'Mummy, what kind of pocket watch is she getting?'

My 6yo dd after hearing big yellow taxi 'paved paradise and put up a parking lot' is not in fact 'picked out a pocket watch'

@woodhill are you referring the lyrics from REM's Sidewinder Sleeps tonight?

They lyrics are "Call me when you try to wake her up" and now mishearing them as "Calling Jamaica" and you previously misheard them as "Calling Chuck Baker". Thought I'd call out to save you from a double mishear. This is like mishearing Inception if so.

In my defence I was brought up on a farm and had probably never heard of a penthouse at the time.

Elton seems to be responsible for quite a few mis-heard lyrics.

Not quite the same thing but when I buy small citrus fruit I get an earworm of the Eagles' Peaceful Easy Feeling but with the words "I got some fun-size easy peelers"!

But it is a vision of love isn't it? Unless you mean you heard "ambition".
