What is the best day for a cleaner to come if you work Monday to Friday? What's realistic in 2 hours?

I've worked 4 days for years but I'm considering going back up to 5 days starting in August

I've never had a cleaner but I've put the feelers out locally and have found a few with availability

We're out from 7.30am - 6pm (ds is here with grandparents a couple of days from 3.30pm) but we seem to create a lot of muck

I'm de-cluttering and organising in anticipation

I'm thinking Mondays as it means we can tidy on Sunday but would later I the week be better?

2 bed house with 2 bathrooms, living room and a big open plan kitchen diner

What's realistic in say 2 hours?

Actually that's rubbish

1 bathroom and a toilet in the utility room 😳

We have a similar size flat and two hours/week is fine for us. Our cleaner used to come on a Thurs (no availability on a Friday) which worked well as it meant that we could have people over at the weekend without needing to do too much cleaning in preparation. She now comes on a Weds for work reasons which is okay but a bit of a no man's land.

I'd opt for a monday. I'd say 2 hours would cover either upstairs or downstairs, so alternate each week? Maybe also ask her to change the bedding when she does upstairs if you don't think it warrants 2 hours. You did say you are all mucky!

I have ours in a Wednesday but I’d prefer a Friday so it’s nice for the weekend.

Our cleaner does 3 of the 4 bedrooms (one being the office I hide in when she’s here!) and then she does the open plan living/kitchen/dining space, 2 bathrooms and the downstairs loo.

I make sure everything is clear so she can just clean though.

My best tip is to ask them to clean when you’re on holiday - mine does extra hours when she feels like and I come back to an immaculate house!

Thanks all. Hadn't considered the Friday so it's nice for the weekend side of it.

It feels ridiculously indulgent to even think about a cleaner but I was off today and pottered round batch cooking, shopping, cleaning etc and can't think where it'll fit in if I do go back to 5 days!

Also - do you just give them a key to keep? 🤔

Our cleaner comes on a Monday. It's great as the flat is clean and fresh for the start of the work week, and we more or less manage to maintain that until the weekend. I then hoover and we generally tidy up.

Whitney168 · 23/05/2022 19:47

Definitely Friday so it’s nice for the weekend, although it’s usually the hardest slot to get because everyone wants it.

bellac11 · 23/05/2022 19:49

Ours comes on Friday so when I get in on a Friday evening the house is nice and clean

you have to tidy up for cleaners though, which means first thing Friday is a rush tidying things up

Reiningitin · 23/05/2022 19:49

I gave mine a key to keep yes. She comes on a Thursday although I would prefer a Friday, she's busy then though , most popular day.

kittybloom · 23/05/2022 19:58

I like Thursdays as (early) start to the weekend.

I have had a cleaner on a Monday but remember you end up the bank hols where you end up paying but may not want someone in the home that day.

Workyticket · 23/05/2022 20:08

Great point about the bank Holidays

Looks like Fridays would be amazing

We live in a house permanently in project mode as dh is handy but rarely finishes anything.

For example skirting boards aren't on in some areas, no ceiling in the small entrance hall, utility is work in progress etc

Would this be a problem do you think? 🤔

Ours comes on Thursdays - then we just try and keep it tidy for the weekend. It’s great if you have guests arriving on Friday.

Though by the end of the weekend it’s a mess again so I end up dong a big clean/tidy on Monday too.

Delatron · 23/05/2022 20:32

Not a problem if you have building work going on. Mine works around it or I tell her which rooms to avoid.

Workyticket · 23/05/2022 20:43

@Delatron that's good to know. It's more areas - he's currently building a giant shed but hasn't finished the 10 or so inside jobs he's started on 😫

@Workyticket sounds familiar!

They can just work around it all though!

Workyticket · 31/05/2022 19:17

I've spoken to a few and most only have Monday availability

I'm now wondering if 3 hours every fortnight on a Monday might be best?
