Anyone own a Tesla Model Y?

That can tell me how long it takes you to get used to the regenerative breaking?

We test drove one today as a potential company car and I’m not sure if I could get used to it, but DHs boss has one and says that you get used to it really quickly. It’s a really big purchase to make on the hope that we get the hang of it, but are we just being daft?

Not a Tesla bit DD has a Corsa e and i cent say I have noticed anything to get used to in the regen braking - maybe it's different on a Tesla though?

What is it you are talking about getting used to?

Thunderpunt · 23/05/2022 17:07

Do you mean when you take your foot off the accelerator it automatically starts to break rather than coasting and thereby recharges the battery?
In which case, it takes no time at all to get used to it. In fact it's fun to watch your miles left increase as you try to drive in a way that recharges more than it uses (I don't get out much can you tell Confused)

You do get used to it surprisingly quickly. So much so that I get nervous if DH who drives the Tesla most of the time wants to borrow my car as I worry he won’t use the brake!

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 23/05/2022 17:48

You get used to it really quick :)

pumpkinmash · 23/05/2022 17:59

By the end of one journey. Maybe the start of the second. Honestly it's odd at first but it's no biggie.

Brogues · 23/05/2022 19:49

Within a day.

SavoyCabbage · 23/05/2022 19:52

In no time at all. There are different modes though. I've got mine on 'creep' which is practically the same as a non-electric car.

GaladrielHiggins · 23/05/2022 19:53

Oh that’s good to know, we both test drove it and I was definitely more lurchy than DH when it came to the braking and you can’t tone down the level of breaking so I felt like a learner driver again! If you all picked it up quickly then there’s hope for me yet!

Really quickly. The Y is DH's car and sometimes when I'm driving mine I forget to brake as I'm so used to the Y braking for me 😬

Treacletoots · 23/05/2022 19:54

I no longer like non electric cars because they DONT break when you decelerate... It takes about a day to get used to it

RoxieLoxy · 23/05/2022 20:14

It takes until about your second drive of it and then you'll love it and not like driving without it. It's the most amazing car, really recommended.

Arucanafeather · 23/05/2022 20:17

Agree with all comments. Struggled first time driving a little but now our other car feels the harder drive! Ours has 3 different driving modes: I have it on chilled which means the controls are more relaxed!

NotMyDayJob · 23/05/2022 20:18

We have a model 3 and I got used to it v quickly. I barely give it a thought now

GaladrielHiggins · 24/05/2022 12:33

Thanks all, I think we are going to go for it!
