Rihanna's rip off bra club

Just saw some nice bras on Rihanna's lingerie site, and very cheap at £24 for 2.

Noticed just before I checked out that "VIP membership" had been automatically added to my basket. Clicked for more info to see that I was signing up to pay £50 a month membership fee unless I remember to opt out each month. £50 a month!

You have to tick the box to say you've read the T&Cs but the number of people who click without reading must be huge.

(I took the VIP membership out of my basket, at which point the prices went up 400%. I've no problem with savings clubs as long as it's abundantly clear what you're signing up for but I think this one is genuinely sneeky and designed to be overlooked.)

Thought the bras were Bucks Fizz style 😂

It's not a rip off, you're supposed to read terms and conditions.

I believe Fabletics has the same business model.

Same with just fab.

Sounds like Just Fab and Fabletics. You only get the cheap price if you sign up for the subscription service.

Sure, but the business model is clearly based on the fact that a proportion of people won't, so a moral rip off even if not a legal one. (Actually with my lawyer's hat on, I'd query whether they've actually incorporated the terms into the contract at all- the more onerous and unusual the terms, the more clearly they need to be brought to people's attention. Having to click through to understand that you're signing up for £50 a month probably doesn't meet the test.)

I just googled it and the first page that came up mentioned the £49.95 monthly subscription for the VIP service unless you skip by a set date each month

MindPalace · 21/05/2022 18:19

That’s very poor practice by them. Hiding important information from consumers and not clearly indicating the price difference would not go down well with consumer groups, I think.

It's at the top of the page and if you scroll down there is more info in larger writing about how it works

Having looked at Fabletics, it's really not the same- that gives you a clear choice to sign up or not.
