White carpets!

Moving into a new rental that has new carpets - white ones!

All wooden floors apart from bedrooms and living room with the white carpet.

I'm going to get cheap rugs and cover the floor in the toddler's bedroom. Maybe just get a big rug for the living room?

Any ideas apart from asking the landlord why?

Vanish carpet cleaner.

MintyMoocow · 21/05/2022 07:46

Make sure EVERYONE takes their shoes off at the front door.

SaintVal · 21/05/2022 08:00

Before you get settled, check the carpets thoroughly for any existing stains and take photos of them so you don't get blamed!

Definitely cover the majority of the area and get vanish carpet cleaner because it's ace and even gets make-up out.

Toddler? White carpets? I'd probably just resign myself to replacing them or losing some deposit on leaving now. 🙈😆

tothemoonandbackbuses · 21/05/2022 08:03

you can get carpets scotch guarded so it might be worth a professional clean ( if they are not new) as well

ChanceNorman · 21/05/2022 08:04

White! Jeez, what possessed them. Even cream can be bad enough in my experience never mind white.

I would get huge rugs to cover as much as possible and enforce no shoes upstairs rigidly. If you're thinking of staying long term I'd settle in for a few months and then ask the landlord if you could put wood/laminate down in the living room. I think I'd be willing to pay for it myself just to not have the stress of a white carpet under me every time I want to sit on the sofa with a coffee or red wine!

There are commercial companies that can spray a carpet protection chemical onto the carpets. It makes removing spills alot easier.
Alternatively there are aerosol protection sprays available.
It seems a daft colour choice to make as a landlord!

Ilkleymoor · 21/05/2022 09:17

They are new! Maybe there was a massive sale because who would want them?

Vanish sounds great. Shoes off already ok and in fact with child will come in via kitchen so no mess can escape.

Will also look up some kind of carpet scotchguard.

Might just giant rug all 3 rooms then we won't have to worry too much.

I knew we'd have to compromise to move but this is not what I thought the compromise would be....

They've probably done it on purpose so you won't get your deposit back.

I'd completely cover them in rugs if I were you. Take photos before covering them as well. Perhaps go to the carpet store and get something cheap and cheerful, but that will act as a protector. I don't know what you will do about opening and closing the doors though as the floor covering will be thicker.

Ilkleymoor · 21/05/2022 10:09

Damn. Hadn't thought about the door. Good point.

Wouldn't it be grim if they did do it on purpose. Although maybe that has to be th reason as it is literally insane.

Oh well, will do what we can and write it off as the cost of moving (and other people being daft).

Should be last rental before buying so will make a nice last story...

Patch test in a corner before you use vanish. We've just had cream carpets fitted and vanish takes out what little colour there is. I've never had this with any other carpet. It's a nightmare. We can't use anything to get the marks out.

WarOnSlugs · 21/05/2022 12:22

Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner and lots of rugs.

WarOnSlugs · 21/05/2022 12:22

Landlord must be bonkers! Grin

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 12:28

You could get some clear plastic floor protectors for the doorways then cover everywhere else.

Or you could remove the doors and take a bit off at the bottom - the LL likely wouldn't notice anyway.
