This has to be a scam?

Right? But it seems to be from the same number as my appointment conformations etc.

"We would like to update your records,
could you please let us know your Ethnicity via email, text or in person when you at the surgery. When responding please add your name, surname, date of birth and ethnicity. Many Thanks
[email protected]"

Surely it's not a good thing to be asking people to provide that information in a text?

Just update them in person when at the surgery if you want to.

It's a government/nhs requirement this year for this info to be obtained by gp surgeries. (Helps with planning for population health needs as different ethnic groups have different prevalences of some disease).
Looks like your surgery has chosen to collect by text.

How exactly do you think someone is going to be able to scam you using that information?

Full name and DOB, I thought we were supposed to protect that information?

I'm more concerned that if an organisation like the NHS normalises things like this, vulnerable people will be more susceptible to actual scams.

If it had been a scam I don't think it would have the option of telling them in person at the surgery.

I don't really see the issue to be honest, it's an optional question so you don't need to reply if you'd rather not

Just ignore it - they can ask you in person if they want to
