Party bags

Dd is turning 7 later in the summer and we are going to do her a party - her first party due to covid and other reasons.

some of the kids in her class will be nearly 8, she's youngest in her class.

my question is, party bags? What do you put in them? Don't want to add to the existing world plastic problem though...

paper bags no problem

but what to put in them? As cheap as possible!

Just do sweet cones.
Kids love them. No tat. Not expensive.

Following as I’m in the exact same position soon but with 5 year olds!

I was thinking about this actually. Probably cheaper too 😅

Also, do you account for siblings turning up? I really don't mind but from experience from taking Dd to parties, a lot of siblings turn up so that could add on maybe 10 or so party bags. Really don't mind but do parents expect siblings to get a party bag? New to this 😅

God I agree with pp. The tat you get in party bags just gets chucked in the bin. DS has a collection of tiny pirate telescopes that he won't let me get rid off and it drives me mad as they're just sitting there getting in the way

I hate the plastic tat too.
We've given out sweet cones, hot chocolate cones, sticker/activity books, & sometimes got the kids to make something during the party that they then take home. Kind of depends on the type of party or theme.
DS (turning 4) will be having a bug themed party next month & they will be doing a during the party to make big themed bits to take home, & then I might do some sweets & possibly a proper magnifying glass or bug pot.

Ds just had his 2nd birthday party, so much younger but same thing really. I just got some paper small party bags ( animal on as theme, but you can get whatever). Then added some haribo, mini lindt chocolates and some animal tattoos.

I made extra incase siblings, and figured if they didn’t get used dh and I could happily eat the haribo and chocolate and Ds will use the wipe on mini animal tattoos over the summer when friends over.

So basically I suggest edible mainly, and yes make some extra in case, which you can just empty back into cupboard and have yourselves otherwise.

My 73 year old neighbour took a spare party bag and was delighted! Said she’d never had one in her life.

Sweetcones or hot choc cones or a bag of sweets.
a book? 10 for £10 in the works.
Pencil cases and pencil with rubber and sharpener or novelty pen - practical for school
Sunglasses - Amazon do a big set of novelty folding ones
Punch balloons
Slap bands
Toothbrush - always going to be used Amazon do fun ones bulk reasonably priced

The Works do 10 children's books for £10. Many are picture books, but some are older and likely would be suitable. I wanted to avoid both plastic and sugar overload so we got a pile of books for the kids to choose from and my DP bought a load of sweets and plastic crap to go with them.

lemonjam · 19/05/2022 20:58

We did sweeties, a bracelet, a bathbomb and smelly pencil in most recent ones

Baker-Ross have lots of little crafty things / pencils / notebooks etc and are good value. some of it is plastic tat but you can choose the bits that aren't.

HairyScaryMonster · 19/05/2022 21:05

We've been getting a book, a pack of haribo and a piece of birthday cake a lot lately. You can usually get them for £1 each.

marshmallowbooks · 19/05/2022 21:08

We are doing a book (the works, 10 for £10), a piece of cake, and a helium balloon 👌
