Cat repellent

Are there any repellents that actually work to stop cats pooing in the garden?

One has started going on the patch of mud right underneath my children's swing and it's really annoying as they keep treading in it.

Other than a dog...
A local cat which is a voracious hunter started sitting under my bird table. I did a passable Rambo imitation with a super soaker and she never returned.

You might be able to do something about the specific issue of the area under the swings by putting down some sort of surface the cat wouldn't want to defacate on as much as mud - maybe a bit of old carpet or rubber matting?

Thanks. A dog is a hard no much to the dismay of my DC, I will look into some kind of matting and hope that discourages it.

The battery operated cat repellent in pp helps a lot in my garden. I think it puts them off pooping but not spraying. I put used coffee granules down and cover any bare soil with sticks or chicken wire. I will start planting plants they aren't meant to like.
Perhaps you need something you can place over the patch in the evening and remove when the kids are playing like pp said, like some used carpet or chicken wire. They might still use it as a toilet though. There is one cat in my area that I watch from my window spraying on people's outside sofas and things. He's my least favourite local cat

I also think they are creatures of habit so I do try to pick up poo and make the place they've pooped less inviting to try to stop then establishing it as their permanent toilet

I'd love to get the water spray but our rabbits wouldn't like it!
I've ordered a rubber mat, it will be beneficial for the grass anyway. I'll try and remember to put something over there too when the DC aren't playing out.
