Skinny son!

really need some help here - ds has his prom in 6 weeks, trying to find a suit for him but struggling because he’s so skinny! Tried a jacket on in Next Outlet for the size although he hated the jacket, size was perfect - 26”. Tried 26” R trousers in TK Max - waist too big, length too short! Trousers might have been ok with a belt if long enough. He’s 5’6” so wouldn’t have thought he’s a long length trousers but does anyone have any idea where I can possibly get a suit to fit - or at least a jacket of that size with trousers as I’m sure I can find a tailor that can adjust the trousers, but a jacket is more difficult! Been scouring the internet for hours this evening, and we’ve twice been shopping to various places but to no avail!

TK Maxx sizing is all over the place, I think they often stock stuff they haven't been able to sell elsewhere for that very reason. Joking apart my son's prom suit came from Primark and was fab, considering he was unlikely to wear it again! Failing that what about H and M or M and S boys department?

purplesequins · 17/05/2022 19:25

tk max is awful, they sell the stuff that's left over from other warehouses. all the weird sizes and the last left shoe.

tbh I woud look at school uniform, that would cover the size.

Have you got a Slater's menswear near you? They sell suits off the peg but adjust them for free (and the turnaround is very quick)

What size chest is he? Slaters start at 34 inch (28 trousers)

SarahB1345 · 17/05/2022 20:12

Ooh have just googled Slaters and there’s one not too far from me, and their prices don’t seem too bad either. I’ve just measured him and he is probably a 32” chest (altho the jacket he tried on was 26” and fitted!), he’s a 25” waist, so hopefully with their alteration service we might get something that looks fairly decent! Thanks so much!

I tried M&S and H&M and nothing, but never thought about Primark, might pop in there before trying Slaters, thanks!

Ive always found Zara to have quite a slim fit for boys

Have you tried places like Next and M&S ? The children's clothing go up to age 15-16 and you buy the trousers and jacket separately.

Neverendingdust · 17/05/2022 21:11

H&M, Zara, ASOS, Boohoo Man should all have tall sizing options. Otherwise perhaps have some tailored?

TKMaxx is no good if you go in with a specific idea, the strategy is to go in with no expectations. Have you tried their website?

Tried both of these but because he is so thin age 13 fits round the waist but is too short, age 16 is perfect for the length but unfortunately you could fit 2 of him in the trousers!

Thanks for this - I tried Zara but their jackets were far too big! He’s that awkward age between a child and a man but being so thin doesn’t fit properly into anything!

My skinny boy is 5’5’’ and buys Next.

erikbloodaxe · 17/05/2022 21:22

I have one in my wardrobe which sounds about right. Would you like me to check?Worn once (for prom) black, with a white shirt and lilac tie. You are welcome to it if it is of any use.

iklboo · 17/05/2022 21:27

Can you get adjustable waist trousers for his size? I'm going to have to look for super skinny DS who's also not massively tall either (5' 6" at the minute, 17 in November).

BorryMum · 17/05/2022 21:33

I've got two boys like this.
Next do some suit trousers in 26" waist. Buy skinny fit, regular
Length and then they don't swim on them. You can order for next day delivery and pick up at the store.

TheTeenageYears · 17/05/2022 21:33

Next do a few 32" jackets and 26" waist black suits. The leg length will be accurate - 29" short & 31" standard (I think)
