I could be wrong but is the Queen subtly giving Ukraine a positive signal? She was wearing a yellow hat with yellow and blue ribbons in... 🌹

I just said the exact same thing!

the80sweregreat · 17/05/2022 18:36

She is supporting Ukraine, that's what I thought too!
It's off topic, but all the lines on this new Elizabeth line won't be married up until the autumn. It's already over budget and still not that fully functional for ages yet !

Riverlee · 17/05/2022 18:39

None of the other tube stations have ‘line’ on the signs, so is this new line officially the ‘Elizabeth Line Line’?

Similarly, the station at Battersea Power station - is it The Battersea Power Station station?

It's just 'Elizabeth line ' but line line would be funny !
Apparently the trains are very quite and the stations are massive ! Just a shame it's so over time and budgets. It's an eye watering amount.
I hope it's all worth it to link up Essex to reading and the other bits it's going to link up too!

She did look very interested in how to use her Oyster card, bless her! Good to see Prince Edward escorting his mother out and about. 🌹

She always looks interested doesn't she?
I'm not really a big Royal fan, but I have admit that someone being that involved and engaged with a ticket machine was fascinating to see.
Even though she didn't really need a ticket!

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/05/2022 20:58

Love the blue ribbons. She is a very savvy women. I'm sure that's done for good reason.

Exitstrategist · 17/05/2022 21:00

Is it open from Stratford to Heathrow shortly?

Georgeskitchen · 17/05/2022 21:01

The Queen alway shows interest in things that are shown to her on official visits. That's why she is so popular x

wonderstuff · 17/05/2022 21:12

She looked fabulous. A new tube line is pretty exciting, read this is the third she’s seen open during her reign.

i can’t quite see why it’s going to Reading?

Bretonbear · 17/05/2022 21:18

I can't help but think that she decided not to attend Parliament as didn't want to spend time with the bunch of idiots in that place. She did however go to the horse show and this new line opening since then and looked like she enjoyed those events. I really really hope she's being choosy about how and where she spends her time.

She's training Charles up. It's like when my son started walking himself to school we had to make sure he knew how to cross the road safely 😂

It’s making sure all the south east is commuter belt
and unaffordable for anyone who happened to be unlucky enough to set up life within 50 miles of the m25

wonderstuff · 17/05/2022 21:33

But Reading is already commuter belt, mainline is 30 minutes from Paddington, tube will take much longer to get to central London. I’m wondering how much demand for Reading to Ealing, as I can’t see anyone actually using it to do Reading to Paddington? I don’t get it?

CandyApplePie · 17/05/2022 21:34

Ah makes sense now my son is obsessed with trains and we was looking at the pics earlier but he was disappointed she wasn’t wearing purple, I can let him know why now!

LouisRenault · 17/05/2022 21:35

Wouldn't be the first time if she was -

The Queen posed in front of blue and yellow flowers, the national colours of Ukraine, as she held her first in-person meeting at Windsor Castle since falling ill with Covid [with Justin Trudeau]. On whether this was a symbolic show of support, a Royal source indicated it was unlikely to be accidental. Pic here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60650285

toomuchicecream · 17/05/2022 21:36

When it's eventually linked up, you'll be able to go from Reading to the city and beyond without getting off at Paddington and onto the tube. Will be one train all the way.

It was commuter belt in all but obvious name, it’s now properly on the tube line so it’s pushed the house prices to pretty much match those of anyone who is on a tubeline over night.

Svalberg · 17/05/2022 22:10

It's not a tube line, it's a railway that goes underground through central London. It's built to different standards than the tube.

Interesting, so how is it different? I suppose all the lines might be a bit different as things evolved?

Svalberg · 17/05/2022 23:13

The trains run faster than tube trains for one, have you see them in action? The line is run by Tfl Rail, it's more like the RER in Paris, whereas their Metro is like our Underground. This link at about 2'20" has the question about it not being a tube! Geoff's videos are really good, he's done quite a few about the Purple trains

wonderstuff · 17/05/2022 23:30

Fascinating thanks

Odessafile · 17/05/2022 23:33

My ukrainian guest noticed it and alerted me to the colour combination !

AuntieStella · 17/05/2022 23:39

Glad they've (finally) started to get it open - not just because it's high time, but also for the entirely trivial reason that it's purple, just like the jubilee.

It's weird to think that the Royals only recently started celebrating Jubilees and there have only ever been eight which have been officially marked - and I've seen 4 of them. and my DMum 5. Even the DC have each seen 2 or 3.

She's probably already got a Freedom Pass tucked away somewhere....
