I have this obsessive online friend that won’t take the hint that I don’t want to be friends anymore but I want to end the friendship gracefully.

I would just block. Of you enter into a dialogue it will drag on

PetersRabbitt · 17/05/2022 18:06

Just don’t talk back anymore.

is this someone online only or someone you know in real life?

Greatoutdoors · 17/05/2022 18:09

Yeah, online only - just block. I have very good online friends who I’m sure are genuine but this one seems like an oddball and too much like hard work.

Cherrysoup · 17/05/2022 18:23

Block, who has time for this shit? He/she is sexually pestering you too.

Somuddled · 17/05/2022 21:07

Your messages aren't graceful (calling conversation with someone else boring can never be considered graceful) and they are a bit wishy washy. If you truly do want to end it gracefully then say 'I have given this a lot of thought and our friendship is not working well for me anymore. Thank you for the positives we did share. I wish you well but please do not contact me again.'

If you don't actually care about graceful (no reason why you should) then just block them.

FuckingNoise · 17/05/2022 21:32

Just stop messaging. You're both very dramatic

Maunderingdrunkenly · 17/05/2022 21:40

You’ve been very clear I think, this other person is just talking circularly to try and bamboozle you. Just send them a rolled eye emoji and block. You’ll feel so free!

ThreeRingCircus · 17/05/2022 21:42

I have given this a lot of thought and our friendship is not working well for me anymore. Thank you for the positives we did share. I wish you well but please do not contact me again.

I never agree with ghosting so I would send this, and then block.

BreakerOfBras · 17/05/2022 21:44

How is it possible for an interaction to be so dramatic, wanky and boring in one go?!

ChaToilLeam · 17/05/2022 21:45

What a fuss! You’re allowed not to be friends any more if you decide so. Just send a final message saying: I’ve decided to move on, and don’t want further contact. Wishing you well for the future. Then block and be done. You do not have to engage in any discussion about this.

rnsaslkih · 17/05/2022 21:48

Well since you have already engaged in a lot of babble over this already, I'd send a simple message saying:

I wish you all the best but I am now leaving the friendship. Please don't message anymore.

gamerchick · 17/05/2022 21:49

Just block. Why the wall of text? You want this person to go away, so make it happen. No more chatter.

Figgygal · 17/05/2022 21:51

To be honest your messages are so bloody rude im.amazed they want to speak to you
Wow

Your messages are a bit much tbh. I'd just stop responding now

SpaceMaaaaan · 17/05/2022 21:56

You're gradually losing interest?! Have you read what you've written. Just leave them alone and stop giving them anything to randomly cling on to.

Mummadeze · 17/05/2022 22:15

If I was that person, I would honestly find your messages confusing. Saying someone is boring you doesn’t necessarily imply you don’t want any further contact. I would be much more clear and less rude if possible. Eg I am sorry but I am going to stop communicating from here on in. Best of luck with everything.

AWOL66 · 17/05/2022 22:16

BLOCK THEM IMMEDIATELY! You could literally be talking to ANYONE! Rule number one of avoiding being abused/murdered/robbed/ridiculed: Never spend time/energy on anyone you don't want to just because they've made you feel obligated - it's manipulation. Eugh their conversation's reverted to them showing a sexual interest in you and guilt tripping you into having long winded tedious chats with them whilst they are biding their time until your defenses weaken with the hope you'll either feel sorry for them and meet up so they can do something sinister/you'll give them money online/or they'll just sit getting off on your chat whilst making sexual comments or laugh at how they're talking crap and you keep replying (people are this odd)! Watch Catfish it's very revealing at how many creeps are online (men and women) and that show's only just scratching the surface!

Thanks for all the responses; it has given me a lot of insight and proved that no one else would put up with this faff! 🙄

Just online! I know I’ve been a pushover 🙄

But also your messages are a bit long winded but hurtful. It's odd to read tbh, you say it's a hint that you aren't interested but it's really quite blunt.

Is that really what you've taken from the thread? Curious.

Kirstenwe456 · 18/05/2022 12:49

I’m glad you’ve said and other people have said it’s odd, I was wondering myself whether it was abnormal but that has confirmed it.
